Publisher's summary

From international bestseller Thomas Olde Heuvelt comes Oracle, a supernatural thriller where an omen from our past threatens the return of ancient forces that will change the world forever.

On a foggy winter morning, high school kids Luca and Emma discover the impossible: the wreck of an eighteenth-century ship stranded in a flower field.

Emma enters the hatch on the deck and is never seen again. And she isn’t the last to disappear. . . .

Soon a government agency begins to investigate, determined to uncover the ship’s secrets before a media storm erupts. They enlist Robert Grim, a retired specialist of the occult, to unravel the mystery, and he soon realizes the ship could be a harbinger of an ancient doom awakened under the sea.

In a maelstrom of international intrigue and pure terror, Grim and Luca must race against time as they come face-to-face with an open doorway to the apocalypse.

Critic reviews

"Told in the style of an international thriller and featuring a huge cast of well-developed characters, the novel is a deep dive into how the tendrils of the past can reach out and force humanity to heed a warning”—Library Journal

Great story arc!

Excellent narrator that pulls one into the story. Very fun and fast-paced listen. I adore this author and look forward to more books from him!

Enjoyable story with a engaging narrator

Enjoyable story with a engaging narrator telling the story with clear separation between all the different voices in the book.

Really good

I enjoyed Hex but this one is even better. Totally worth a listen. Liked the story and the narrator did a fab job.

Tedious, on and on…

Loved his first novel, Hex. It was tight, the characters were engaging and there were no loose ends. The situation was nuts, but the premise deliciously visualised and everything made sense. I feel Oracle tried to do too much. I guess I just don’t enjoy my horror novels epic in scale (although I did enjoy The Stand.)

Like a dark, old world fable, much like it's predecessor, Hex, Oracle shies you away from what goes bump in the night.

Like a dark, old world fable, much like it's predecessor, Hex, Oracle shies you away from what goes bump in the night. It has a different feel for American readers, as the Dutch have a slightly different way of doing things. Definitely read Hex before Oracle though.;)

Confusing

I read A LOT but I really had trouble with keeping up with the characters and story of this one.

Great narrator, too many unlikable AND unrealistic characters

The narrator's talents were wasted on this novel. The author claims defeat from the jaws of victory by, despite crafting an intriguing sci fi concept, littering his story with profoundly dislikable characters in every layer of the story. And these characters are drawn with hamhanded and unrealistic oafishness. A real missed opportunity here.
