Publisher's summary

The sole survivor of a serial killer might hold the key to stopping a new spree of murders in this propulsive horror thriller in the vein of The Black Phone and The Whisper Man.

Dark and twisting at every turn, fans of Catriona Ward will love this chilling new tale from the deviously inventive horror author that Peter Farris calls the "clear heir to Stephen King."

Beware the one who got away . . .

Father Silence once terrorized the rural town of Twisted Tree, disguising himself as a priest to prey on the most vulnerable members of society. When the police finally found his House of Horrors, they uncovered nineteen bodies and one survivor–a boy now locked away in a hospital for the criminally insane.

Nearly two decades later, Father Silence is finally put to death, but by the next morning, the detective who made the original arrest is found dead. A new serial killer is taking credit for the murder and calling himself the Outcast.

The detective’s daughter, Tess Claibourne, is a detective herself, haunted by childhood trauma and horrified by the death of her father and the resurgence of Father Silence’s legacy.

When Tess’s daughter is kidnapped by the Outcast, Tess is forced to face her worst fears and long-buried memories. With no leads to follow, she travels back to Twisted Tree to visit the boy who survived and see what secrets might be buried in the tangled web of his broken mind.

With captivating prose and an old-school horror flair, Sleep Tight is a must-listen haunting tale from a true master of the genre.

I realized I just wasted 11 hours of my life…

I usually do not write reviews because I don’t believe that authors should be subjected to reviews from people who don’t like their work even a little bit but WOW. This story was just absolutely terrible. The only thing saving this book is the narrator who is brilliant in accents in different voices for everyone, but man oh man. I hated this book. I feel like I wasted a good chunk of the last two days listening to it. The story is an absolute mess, all over the place, literally makes almost no sense in some chapters and it’s so dragged out and repetitive.
Unless you like boring books where the main character who’s a woman takes her man back after he had an affair and blames it on her working too much, please spare your time and do not listen to this. Not worth it for a second.

Rewards you for paying attention

Overall a really engaging book. The intricacies of weaving In and out of multiple character stories while all being focused on the main. Is difficult to connect with one, let alone 5 characters in just one book, but Market makes every character feel relatable and important.
My only complaint is that I wanted more out of the ending. Maybe that’s not a complaint but a commentary on how locked in this book makes you. I appreciated how little details throughout the story help you see some things unfolding by the end!

A jumble mess

Too many weak twists that tells a story in the form of a tumbleweed. Don't get me wrong, it started off like a good story but after the first third it's like what is going on...

Complexity of Characters

I work in mental health within a medium security prison and I’ve been working in this field for 13 years. This book does an amazing job of creating a story that uses mental health as a tool to tell a wonderful and scary story. I truly enjoyed it and I will patiently wait for the next one.

More of a detective feel

It’s a good book but there is no supernatural feel to it just a silent of the lambs type thing. Good book tho definitely recommend

“Unraveling Darkness”

I was fortunate enough to immerse myself in the world of "Sleep Tight" by J.H. Markert, unable to tear myself away from its gripping narrative that unfolded over just two days. Each character in the story felt intricately developed, their emotions and motivations palpable as if I were experiencing their journey alongside them. Surprisingly, I found myself empathizing with even the antagonist, a testament to the depth and complexity of the characters crafted by Markert.

It's rare to come across a book that captures such profound character development without sacrificing plot coherence, and "Sleep Tight" excels in this aspect. The thought of this story being adapted into a movie excites me, as I believe its rich storytelling and well-rounded characters deserve to be experienced by a wider audience who may be hesitant to delve into the book itself.

This is a chilling and gripping novel that plunges readers into a world where the boundaries between sanity and madness blur with spine-tingling intensity. The story follows the sole survivor of a serial killer who may hold the key to stopping a new spree of murders, leading to a harrowing journey filled with unexpected twists and suspenseful revelations. As the protagonist navigates the dark and twisted paths of the human psyche, the narrative unfolds with a sense of impending dread and gripping tension.

Last, but not least, having Andi Arndt narrate this title was a stroke of genius, if not luck. There are only five narrators that I know of who can do multiple voices and accents, men and women and children’s, which was extremely necessary for this book so that listening to it was a pleasure. So I’d like to thank either the author for choosing Andi or for Andi reaching out and asking to narrate. They made a great team, hell anyone who has Andi Arndt as a narrator is likely to get a five star review.
