About this listen
Christmas lights twinkle throughout the cozy coastal town of Rocky Point, New Hampshire, and Prescott's Antiques auction venue has been transformed into a winter wonderland for Josie Prescott's annual holiday party. Josie is especially excited this year - Ian Bennington, a recently discovered distant relative, will be joining the fun. Both Ian and Josie are, it seems, descended from Arabella Churchill, a 17th-century royal mistress. The party is a success and Ian is a hit. It gives Josie an unexpected thrill to have family - and unexpected dread when he vanishes.
Ian doesn't keep his dinner date with Josie's good friend, Lavinia, or his lunch date with her. Surely, he would have done so - if he could. Ian has given his daughter two priceless 17th-century watercolor miniature portraits, one of Arabella and one of her lover, King James II, and they've gone missing, too. Knowing that after her nasty divorce, Lavinia is facing financial ruin, Josie can't help wondering if her friend is behind the theft - and Ian's disappearance.
Determined to find Ian, Josie uses her knowledge of antiques to track the miniatures. In doing so, she learns the true meaning of Christmas - and the true meaning of family. Jane Cleland's Ornaments of Death is another masterful addition to the Josie Prescott series.

Good Cozy Mystery
What did you love best about Ornaments of Death: A Josie Prescott Antiques Mystery?
I like all the detail used for the surroundings. There are a lot of people to meet but I think it was done well because I was never bored or uninterested with all the different encounters.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Josie is my favorite because I was never unhappy with any decision she made. Even when she’s being tricked, I think I would have done the same as her.
Any additional comments?

Poor plot & NOTHING Christmasey about it
For starters there is nothing Christmasey about this, nor does it have anything to do with ornaments. The title and description is misleading. Don't buy this if you want a Christmas cozy mystery. But that's not even the biggest issue
Almost everything about the main character Josie makes this book horribly frustrating.
1. When Josie gets ahold of these million dollar miniature paintings that people are getting killed over she decides to carry them around with her instead of calling the cops to pick them up and do it by procedure. She takes the paintings from the scene of the crime and then drives around with them. She takes it to a dark alley and then gets out of her car leaving the painting unattended. I won't go further but honestly any idiot would know not do do that.
2. It's also HIGHLY Unlikely that a civilian like Josie would be able to sit in on many police questionings because she has an "antiques aspect to offer." Josie is always there assisting the cops by giving them questions to ask the witnesses. Why doesn't she just take over then?? I understand these books can be a bit more far fetched but this reaches far beyond what I can even pretend to look past. Josie is a know it all who comes up with common sense ideas the senior police officers can't seem to think of. Again, as if. Either were supposed to believe this town has the most ignorant cops or Josie is a genius. Either way her constant "Told you so" attitude that spans across this book is obnoxious and irritating.
To close it all up the story itself dragged on forever and the ending was predictable and dumb. Don't waste your time.
