About this listen

Federal judge Edward Lamport is no stranger to controversy and danger. Nine months into his tenure, he's received two death threats and is under the protection of US Marshals. But when he receives a plea for help from a woman with whom he had a brief romance twenty-five years earlier, he must face a peril of a different sort, one that involves his long-lost son, Carlos.

While working for a bank in his native Mexico, Carlos discovers an international money-laundering scheme. Now he's on the run from those who want him dead. To get the young man asylum in the United States, Lamport appeals to his highest connections in Washington, only to find puzzling dead ends at every turn. Caught between law and love, he's forced to take the matter into his own hands. With only his faith in God to guide him, how far is he willing to venture into the dark recesses of political corruption to save his son?

Dragged on at times

The story was good, but so many times the story dragged on and was repetitive. It was good enough that I finished it though, which says a lot.

Come on folks – say it – this is Christian fiction

Any additional comments?

I don’t have anything against Christianity, in fact I like God, but I do think it is ridiculous for reviewers not to acknowledge this Christian fiction. The main characters refer to their faith and trust in God as the motivation for their choices and actions, however they do this without being preachy or constantly Bible-quoting. The story is good, particularly nuanced in the areas about illegal immigrants’ rights, and the narration is excellent. There is no gratuitous right-wing demonization’s as in all those “Left Behind” type books. One of the most interesting aspects to me is that so many of the major characters are Latino, not just to push the story but others as well. I particularly enjoyed the references to the history of Irish Mexicans since I had never heard of this group before. Sorry to disagree, this will not be a NY Times bestseller but it is a good listen.

Couldn't put it down

Perilous Judgement is a book filled with Justice, Love, Passion, and Emotion, I felt as though I was watching a captivating movie on the Big Screen. I didn't want it to end. I always put myself into whatever I read or watch and I found myself in this book in many of the characters. It's an Exciting and Heartwarming read!

Excellent (Christian?) suspense thriller!

I'm not going to down rate this excellent suspense thriller for what appears to me to be near constant references to the the grace of God and the strength of the author's Christian religious faith. For those familiar with author Joel C Rosenberg, it is him times 10. I would have preferred the publisher's summary be upfront about the overwhelming religious aspect of this novel, and I would have purchased and listened to it even if forewarned.

Perilous Judgement is an outstanding first novel by Dennis Ricci. The narration is even better than the contents of the novel.
