About this listen

Pirates! Scoundrels Who Shook the World

Exclusively on Audible, hilarious history for ages eight and up.

Hoist the mizzenmast and batten down those bloody hatches: Pirates! Scoundrels Who Shook the World tells the hilarious-but-true adventures of history’s most amazing pirates.

Learn about Stede Bonnet, the gentleman pirate, who left a life of luxury to become one of the most clueless pirates ever; Anne Bonney and Mary Read, two “openly female women” whose exploits turned them into media sensations; Jean and Pierre Lafitte, the Pirate Kings of New Orleans, who helped America win The War of 1812, and Ching Shih, the Chinese woman who rose from utter poverty to become the greatest pirate in history.

Pirates! has it all: swordfights, cannon blasts, parrot poop, daring acts of idiocy, bumbling British officers, and of course, plenty of booty. So buckle your swashes and swish your swords, Pirates! Scoundrels Who Shook the World is setting sail to the land of hilarity.

About the Creator

Scott McCormick: When he’s not flustering emus or stymying mambas, Scott McCormick enjoys annoying his children until they tell their mother. He also writes. He writes all kinds of stuff. Some of it is good. He wrote the Mr. Pants series of graphic novels. Those were good. You should totally check them out. So are the books he writes for Audible, including Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World, and its sequel, Rivals 2. He’s also excited about his first novel, The Dragon Squisher, which is just as funny and squishy as it sounds. Scott lives on the western edge of the easternmost part of southern North Carolina, right smack in the middle of it all.

Amazing and informative

A fun listening and a learning experience even if your adult. The cast had done a wonderful job and Scott Vaughan always delivers in his writings.

Another entertaining educational listen.

Book 3 in the Rivals! series was just as entertaining and educational as the previous 2. I like the quickness of these, but you get just enough info to be hooked, which leads to doing research on the different subjects/people covered. I had just listened to a romance novel about pirates before this, so it was interesting to me to see that I already knew some of the things covered.
I really enjoyed learning about the female pirates and will have to look for more info on them!

Once again the performance/narrating was excellent.

History

A fun way to tell historical events. As a retired teacher of both history and English, I hope a few high school teachers have discovered these.
