About this listen
Midnight on a moonlit beach. Six cops execute four thugs after a heinous crime. They are unaware that there is a witness to the executions. Thrilling action explores tactical, ethical, and criminal choices made by officers of the law. A stark image of moral ambiguity underpins their struggle to maintain courageous and precarious control of all-engulfing crime. Plain-dealing cops face scrutiny in an emotional journey through choices made in the day-to-day confrontation with evil.

Four years ago, Erin's life changed drastically. Her drug-addicted brother killed her parents, and her marriage disintegrated. Her husband Matt, an FBI agent, had done his duty when he'd arrested Stuart, but she'd been too caught up in her own grief to allow him to help her move through the shadows of pain. What made the experience of listening to Plain Dealing the most enjoyable?
I came across this months ago but never got the chance to listen to it, so just parked it. Then I stumbled across the fourth book in this series and read it quickly because of the blurb, which was intriguing and shocking. It was a knockout. So I listened to this. Wow. Even better. Totally gripping and quite different from the norm. Exotic accents - beautifully clear and understandable - and crisp dialogue and horrific action. Wonderful. What other book might you compare Plain Dealing to and why?
I suppose it's like the Jason Bourne trilogy or the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. Anything exciting and action-filled, with believable characters. This is the same.Have you listened to any of Ian Patrick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. This is the first one for me.Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yep. For sure.Any additional comments?
Very different. Refreshing. Why did I wait so long?

What made the experience of listening to Plain Dealing the most enjoyable?
The narrator has got these characters right between the eyes. Very enjoyable accents and idiosyncrasies, and lovely tension.Who was your favorite character and why?
Mashego is a really intriguing character in this audio rendition of the book. Accent is slightly inferred and very authoritatively performed. I also like the forensics women. So sharp. They cut any macho men down to size, and rightly so.Which character – as performed by Ian Patrick – was your favorite?
Mashego, for the above reasons. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes and no. I like to hear it in big hefty pieces. The chapter sizes are perfect for this.Any additional comments?
This is so realistic. It's like journalism rather than fiction. Totally believable all the way.Excellent

The moral dilemma is intriguing. Do we execute the devil if we're supposed to uphold the law? What does Ian Patrick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Very rich and enticing voice and clear diction with lovely local accents creating the right flavour. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There was a moment when the big cop Mashego and Tenjiwe are on the riverbank. It was very moving as she spoke about her loss.Any additional comments?
The action is great and makes me envisage something even better than any Bruce Willis thriller movie. Very exciting to listen to.Very enjoyable
