About this listen

When Olivia Limoges and other Oyster Bay patrons of the arts sponsor a retreat for famous storytellers, one of them is going to have a very unhappy ending....

Olivia thought that gathering some of the most renowned storytellers in one place would be a nice, simple way for herself and the Bayside Book Writers to appreciate their talents. But things take a dark turn when the most famous storyteller in the nation - the captivating performer Violetta Devereaux - announces onstage that she will meet her end in Oyster Bay. When Violetta is discovered murdered after the show, everyone involved with the retreat becomes a suspect. There are rumors that Violetta, who grew up in extreme poverty in the Appalachian Mountains, possessed an invaluable treasure. Now Chief Rawlings and the Bayside Book Writers must work at a frenzied pace to solve the crime before someone closes the book on them.

This is a very good addition to a very entertaining series. The characters are interesting and continue to develop and grow. The mystery is well thought out and complex. I look forward to the next book.

Ms. Adams gives so much depth to her characters. I also love the narrator’s ability to make the characters so believable. Great read!!!

Wonderful plot and characters

This is a great series and Karen White does a great job of narrating. Can't wait to listen to the next one.

Love this series!

Resently discovered this author and have "consumed this series". Two more to go and on to as many of her works as I can find. Arthritis has put a hitch in my git along. So I'm running on the beach in my mind with her. Can't wait to see where else she takes me!

Fun reading

At first I had a difficult time staying focused while I walked because there were a lot of characters being introduced and things going on. But when I started over (just 2 chapters) and being more focused, I enjoyed the suspense, action and characters. This is not one you can get distracted for a couple lines! I was disappointed when this book was finished. Looking forward to next one. I still wish characters didn't sound so old. Although I've learned to accept Olivia's voice as more mature and sophisticated, but not as snobby and standoffish as I originally perceived it.

A lot of things going on.

I have been an avid reader (listener) of this whole series, and I really loved it. However, this book loses me a bit and it isn't quite the same love affair. For starters, the murdered character Violetta is not someone you really feel this deep need to see justice for. She is an unlikeable character who is cruel to family and friends around her (you find out why, and its woefully unjustified), and halfway through I was kind of tired of the plot. I just did not care who killed her or why, I was just saying Good Riddance!
Next, it seems like the more I get to know the members of the Bayside Book Club, the less I like them. It's almost like as we peel away at their personality they are less likeable. Malay is cruel to Harris, Laurel's peppy attitude is way past irritating, and even Olivia's stubbornness loses its charm.
However, there are some shocking events that happen, and that's what kept my interest in this book. No one is off limits in this series, and no one is ever truly safe from tragedy. In other cozy mysteries you could count on the main characters to not be suspects or murdered which made it very predictable. Ellery does a great job of keeping you on your toes, so kudos to that!

Well written, enjoyed the characters and their continued development and the story, but felt the middle lagged a bit

Another great book

Too much of this book is filled with inane "details". I consider them fillers, stopped listening early in the book.

Tedious
