Publisher's summary

Mary Jane, a struggling comedienne, stumbled into the wrong club at the wrong time. She didn't notice the gangster gripping the gun and the two scary men on his sides. She just jumped on the stage, tested the microphone, and went into her routine. And that's where things got interesting.

Noah was the gangster that gripped the gun. The beast of Din City. The boss of the streets. The one who ruled them all from the North to the South. Not liking to murder women, he'd now been thrown into an uncomfortable situation. She'd accidentally become a witness to something she shouldn't have seen. She'd now become a problem.

Yet, their gazes met, and their hearts faltered, thump, thumping in their chest like a tune beat out from bullets slicing through the air and bodies crashing to the ground. Their gazes met, and things would never be the same for him or her - or the streets. Their gazes met, and he decided not to kill her; instead, he took her on a journey where sex meets the rhythm of the streets, high to low, smooth to rough, growing inside of them both until they're not sure if any of them will survive - him, her, or those bloody streets.

Unexpected Good Book

I didn't think this book was going to be as good as it is. the romance is good. I could have used the different narrator. but all in all I laughed I jumped a little and I like the ending. I actually was driving and when I reached my destination oh, I put the car in park. I actually set there the 15 minutes listening to the book and being late to my meeting. it was worth it. I like the characters Noah is a little bit that was expected. Mary Jane needed to be play by an African American. she was unbelievable as a black woman. sometimes I think the authors and the Publishers don't take into consideration the whole value of the book and the association that and the black woman I would have made with an African American variator the Mary Jane. I would have given the book five stars for the proper narrators.

Wha Tha...????

It should be against the rules to allow a narrator to use a cheap Walmart microphone to record. If it can't be done in a studio professionally, then it needs to be done in a sound proof room using professional grade equipment. Girl sounded like she was echo'ing down a long tunnel. Not cool at all. Also, she was terrible. I felt like a 3 year old sitting in a circle of my peers listening to a preschool teacher reading. Audio book narrators need to have acting ability. She does not. Also, she uses the same voice, tone and inflection for all characters. You cant tell who's talking.

Interesting and different story!

So after listening to Dirty Kisses and Dirty Love, I wanted to hear more from this author.

Power was different! I was intrigued right away. The beginning held my attention. Noah and MJ had decent chemistry and all that was going on around them kept me listening. Then it started to fall off for me around the Ebony Forrest/fortune teller scene and the haunted house scene. I put it down for a while because I wasn't sure if I was feeling the turn the book was taking. THEN, I was pulled right back in when Noah went to kill Butterfly. That had to be the craziest murder scene I've ever read/listened to!! The book from 2-2 1/2 stars to an easy 4-4 1/2 stars from that point on!

Now for the narrators... the male narrator grew on me, It was a little hard to listen to at first, but the story made me forget the corniness of his voice. However, I hated every chapter that was narrated by the female narrator. It was so hard to get past her voice and lack of enthusiasm. It was as though she was just sitting there and reading the book to herself opposed to putting on a performance. But again, the story line kept me going.

Overall good book. Would have been able to give it five stars if it weren't for the narrators.

fantastical mixer

A hilarious mystical romance. Performance was good, needed a better accent for the Jamaican and the "hood" black people.

An Uneven Book with enjoyable chapter markers

The first thing I want to mention is the difference between the male narrator and female narrator's audio quality. The book opens with the male narrator and the.sound quality is just what I expect from an Audible book. But when the female narrator starts the difference is striking as it sounds like she is recording in a closet. It became clear that it wasn't just the opening part but her whole performance was at that level. It was really distracting as a book went on.

As for the story, the third act (and it is labelled the third act) takes a very different turn. The book switches from Urban romance to urban fantasy. The change came out of nowhere and really took me out of the story.

Overall, I liked the main characters and their trusted inner circle, so I was interested to see how the entire story played out. The narrator's performances themselves were pretty good, which made this sound quality differences annoying but not insurmountable.

Awesome gangsta love story!

The story itself was fire! It was insane reading how Mary Jane had not only the hardest sexiest Crime Kingpin wrapped around her little finger, but she got his most loyal killers looking at her like the little sister they must protect!
The strange jokes that start each chapter were crazy!
I truly felt bad for Noah. The choice he was faced with in the beginning wasn't an easy one. Thank goodness Mary Jane stepped in when she did.
I wasn't to crazy about the narrators. Their voices didn't really do much for the story. I guess, I was to used to the narrators from her other story, Redemption.
All in all, it was amazing!

This book is sooooo good

There is nothing I didn’t like about this book. I enjoyed it from the Beginning and ending of this personal story. I just finished it today and I’m so sad I wanted more. I don’t want this book to end it soooo good. I’m losing so much sleep, but Kenya Wright books are so worth it!

A little dark and very humorous

MJ and Noah are hilarious. Their inner dialogues had me cracking up throughout the entire book. I see some mixed reviews with the other reviewers. People seem to either love this book or hate it.
First of all, the writing was awesome. It is a good read. I think the problem some people has with this audio version is the narration. I actually liked Angel Cochrane's performance of MJ. And Kevin's performance of Noah reminded me of Wentworth Miller's (Prison Break) portrayal of Leonard Snart in DC Legends of Tomorrow. So now that is how I see Noah. Some may not have liked it but I felt the contrast of the narrators' voices made the book enjoyable as they both gave you a picture in your mind of how the characters may look.

Anyway, I found the book to be very humorous. The way MJ even came into Noah's life was hilarious and the scene with her and Fuji when she tried to escape had my side hurting. It was also a hot listen. Their chemistry with each other was really good. The only thing I didn't care for was MJ's jokes. They were a tiny bit foul but not that bad. Just not my cup of tea.

The overall plot was good girl changes bad boy but the journey of their unconventional romance made for a very interesting read. For those that didn't like it because of what they perceive to be unrealistic, get over it. It is a work of fiction and comes from the mind of a writer. If this story is not for you, thats okay. Just say its not for you. No need to call it rubbish. Remember someone's rubbish is another person's treasure.
I for one thoroughly enjoyed it. I love BWWM books but it's hard to find good narrated versions of them on Audio. This was actually not bad as far as the performance goes and I would listen to both narrators again.
Kenya Wright's books are not new to me as I have several of her books on my Kindle. This is, however, my first audiobook by her and I would say it is worth a credit.

very real technical issues with this recording.

That's the part that really stands out and interrupts the narration. Esp the female narration.

Overall though, the story was okay. I kinda liked how it delved I to the super/preternatural. Wish there was more from the start.
