About this listen

Pray for salvation...

Pray for daylight...

Murder has pulled Mira out of the shadows and back into the living world...

As the fire-wielding enforcer of the nightwalker coven wrestles with the mind-destroying ghosts of her dark past, the slaying of a senator's daughter in Savannah threatens to expose her kind to the brilliant light of day. The dawn of chaos has come. The naturi have broken free of their eternal prison to feed on the defenseless and unbelieving of an unprepared Earth.

Mira and Danaus - vampire and vampire slayer - must unite to prevent the annihilation of their separate races. But for Danaus the challenge is intensified, for he must also fight the bori who covets his soul. And Mira, the nightwalker he must protect - whose power is the Earth's last hope - is rapidly going insane.

Interesting listen but monotonous at the end

First of all, can I just say the Todd McLaren's voice is warm decadent liquid chocolate. I really wish I could hear him read erotica. Another reader said that not much happened in the story and she was right. For the time I spent listening, Todd's voice is what kept me going. I liked that this is from (Danaeous' (male's ) perspective vs. Mira's perspective. But really, nothing happened worth noting. The end got a little long and monotonous with person after person being inhabited by the evil demon and the yelling by everyone just made me roll my eyes. Near the end, I wished that they could all be put out of their misery--quickly so they would all stop yelling... I am sure that you could skip this book and still not miss anything from the series. But really, Todd's voice....yum.

This narrator can not do a female voice. Lmao!

So we’re reading this from Danaus pov and god he’s annoying with his moral pedestal nonsense. He was alright overall though. Did not like how pathetic and simpering she made Mira just to drive some hero/damsel in distress romance. ALL HIS FEMALE CHARACTERS SOUND LIKE OLD LADIES. NARRATOR IS INCAPABLE OF FEMALE VOICES but his male voices are good.

Good series!

This is the first one I've listened to in this series and it was very good. Liked the story, but then I've liked all the books in this series so far. One thing that was different in this book was the story was told from Dinaus's perspective instead of Mira's. I actually think I liked that better. The narrator did a good job. I'll get the next one and hopefully the sixth one will pop up on audible by the time I'm ready for it.

I miss Mira

So I can understand the reasoning behind writing the book from Danaus's prespective but in the end it just made me miss Mira. I kept wanting to know what was going through her head during different scenes.

To make it harder for me to like this book I am not Danaus's biggest fan to start with. In the previous 3 books he has not grown much as a character. He was terrified in book 3 of being under a sleep spell and in Mira's "control" for that short period of time. Even though she had shown time and time again that she would protect him. Yet he has never had an issue with taking control over Mira when ever he feels the need.

My last issue with the book is the narrator. He actually has a great voice but he kept saying Femus (no idea how to spell it have only heard it) differently than the other narrator. This drives me nuts because it knocks me out of the story. Also in the same conversation he would say Mira 2 different ways. Which happened more than once. Having inconsistencies like that throws the listening experience off. Which is why I gave him 3 stars instead of the 4 or 5 I would have.

Having said that the story was good and I actually did enjoy it as you can see by my ratings. I liked seeing Mira fight back against being controlled. I also enjoyed Danaus FINALLY admitting at least to himself that Femus was wrong and Ryan had been using him for years. I liked Lilly a lot because she adds more humanity to the story line

I will warn you that it ends in a cliff hanger so be prepared to spend another credit.

Horrible Narrator

I had bought the first book in the series on sale quite some time ago but only recently listened to it. I enjoyed it enough to buy the next 2 books even though the narrator was different. The 4th book in the series was ruined for me by the narrator who doesn’t even pronounce the other lead character’s name consistently. His performance of female characters was abysmal. Even though someone else narrates the final book in the series, his performance made all the characters seem so annoying that I don’t care what ultimately happens to the characters.
