About this listen

Lucy Ashton had long ago given up her quest for true love. In the rarified society of Victorian England, Lucy plays the game—flirting, dancing, and dabbling in the newly fashionable spiritualism. Even marrying when—and who—she’s supposed to. If the stuffy Duke of Sussex cannot spark the passion she craves, he can at least give her a family, a home of her own, and a place to belong. But when her polite marriage reveals a caring and sensual man, Lucy begins to wonder if she can indeed have it all.

But Lord Sussex is not the man the London ton has come to admire. And Lucy has some ghosts of her own, as well. Thus, when a blackmail scheme turns to threats of danger, the newfound peace of the Sussex marriage is cast upon the rocks. Passion has a price, Lucy learns. And not all ghosts stay buried.

Excellent!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Pride & Passion to be better than the print version?

All around an excellent story, really loved the narrator. My only issue that at some points during the book things moved too quickly from one scene to another but definitely want to listen to again...

So very passoniate

OMG... I cannot wait to read more from Charlotte Featherstone!!! The way she is able to put to words the feelings she is expressing in her writing is remarkable!! I cannot even think of another author to compare her to, Christine Feehan would be the closest but I have to say Charlotte Featherstone is one author I will read for as long as she writes!!

Pretty entertaining but prefer 1st book of series

Really liked narrator of first book in this series better. it's actually why I picked it. the storyline was too drawn out in the second book of series but not bad overall

Great Sequel

This is the second book in a series, and apparently there is supposed to be a third. It has a slow start, as if Featherstone was trying to save a big reveal for the end. Also, some of the lines are roll your eyes corny. But, once you get into it, it's actually pretty addictive. I ended up enjoying this novel a lot.

Great twist on Darcy and Lizzie

Read from July 30 to August 07, 2012

4.5 stars

Audiobook read by Bianca Amato. Even better than the first book in the series! I loved Featherstone's twist on Austen's Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth. And even though I'd figured out most of the mystery of the Brethren Guardian plot, the story was so well told that it was fun figuring it out and then getting the confirmation that I was right. But Featherstone really needs a better editor to help with technical issues in her writing.

My kind of bodice ripper

Where does Pride & Passion rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of the better romance audios I've listened to. It was sexy, mysterious and interesting. The plot was well developed and the characters are interesting and the sex scenes were HOT! Lucy and Lord Sussex are a good match and their pairing is super heated, and passionate. I needed a "take me away" book and this totally took me to fantasy land.

Have you listened to any of Rebecca de Leeuw’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No and she was great.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes definitely but I have a job, my family and an old cat to care for.....had I not been a responsible person my whole family would have starved and our cat would be begging for food elsewhere!

Any additional comments?

Can't wait for the next book. This was much better than expected!

Better Than The First

Any additional comments?

Much better than the first book. Yes this is a series although Audible doesn't indicate. Story, romance and narrator made this an enjoyable listen. Purchased on sale which was even better!

Better than book 1

If you could sum up Pride & Passion in three words, what would they be?

Heartwarming, Tense, Passionate

What other book might you compare Pride & Passion to and why?

Devil's Bride by Stephanie Laurens

Which character – as performed by Rebecca de Leeuw – was your favorite?

Great Duke of Sussex

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Sometimes I wanted to scream at Lucy, she was a bit whiny at times.
I really loved Lizzy (Duke of Sussex blind sister), she was so confident and independent, I think her story will be told in book 3..( Can't wait)

Any additional comments?

It's a great stand alone book. but you certainly wouldn't be unhappy if you purchased both.
They are both GREAT stories...

Ack!!! Cliffhanger

Would you listen to Pride & Passion again? Why?

Yes, it was seductive and dark and gritty. No one writes a love scene like Featherstone.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Pride & Passion?

All the love scenes are memorable. There enticing and exciting.

Which character ??? as performed by Rebecca de Leeuw ??? was your favorite?

Lord Sussex. I loved the readers smooth rich voice. Her different accents were intriguing and even though she is a women she did a pretty descent job as a man.

Any additional comments?

I wish books that were cliffhangers came with warnings. I like to read them in succession instead of having to wait months for the next book to come out. So be forewarned, if you don't like to wait either, the end is the beginning of another book.
