Publisher's summary

The enchanting second book in New York Times best-selling author Jessica Day George's Twelve Dancing Princesses series is a Cinderella retelling that will sweep you off your feet!

Hoping to escape the troubles in her kingdom, Princess Poppy reluctantly agrees to take part in a royal exchange program, where young princes and princesses travel to each other's countries in the name of better political alliances - and potential marriages. It's got the makings of a fairy tale - until a hapless servant named Eleanor is tricked by a vengeful fairy godmother into competing with Poppy for the eligible prince.

Ballgowns, cinders, and enchanted glass slippers fly in this romantic and action-packed happily-ever-after quest from an author with a flair for embroidering tales in her own delightful way.

Favorite book of the series!

This book was great! I loved the story line and characters. Poppy is super fun and I love how the romance part in this book was a little more realistic than in the other books.

One of the best books

I absolutely love Jessica day George. She is one of my favorite author. I loved how rose and gaylin showed up at the end🤣. This was a great addition of a book to a series of 3. My favorite series from her is the dragon slippers series. I think I may have all but one book.

Best of the three stories

What a great reworking of the glass, ash, maid-servant, orphan, fairy godmother and true love themes. My vote for Poppy as the best princess of the bunch. But why do people always keep secrets whose revelation would really help someone they care about?

love the twist

no spoilers. but I am going to say it took the structure of well-known fairy tales and then just demolish them to make a mosaic of its own creation. And I loved it!

spoilers

I love that this is an untraditional take on Cinderella told from a "stepsister" point of view. However, I feel the ending was a little chinzy. All she did was break through the wall to get out of the castle after the crone told her she could keep her there. No fight, nothing to stop them, no explaining how Ellanora's feet returned to normal just from leaving, how it "was over now", especially since she sill needed to be sealed inside her realm. There was a lot of build up for such a simple end.

Different but cool!

This was an interesting twist on Cinderella. I loved how one of the 12 princesses is in this one and is friends with the girl who wears the glass slippers, but having the fairy godmother be a witch and the slippers hurting her was so unique. I loved it.
