Incomparable New York Times bestselling author Dick Francis offers a compelling tale of fine living, fast horses, and shattering suspense....

Wine merchant Tony Beach has expertly catered his latest society soiree, but the fun’s over when a team of hit men crash the party…literally. The event leaves Tony with a bitter aftertaste of suspicion—and sets off a mystery that’s an intoxicating blend of deception, intrigue, and murder.

“[A] stunning climax … It’s a corker.”—Publishers Weekly

Were it a book, I would have to say that I could not put it down. Very much by accident I found an entrancing story written with literary quality, and narrated as if lived in real life. I have no higher compliment to offer this unexpectedly delighting gem.

Most enjoyable and enthralling

Dick Francis always found a way to make you love the protagonist, who was always humble while finding himself in the middle of the mystery. This one is one of his best.

The very best. Dick Francis never disappoints.

My first Dick Francis novel, but not my last. I enjoyed this novel. It kept me engrossed. I like the pace and the protagonist. I typically like mystery series for the character development over time. However, the author did a good job revealing more and more of the protagonist as the story unfolded. I like novels that are more mysteries than thrillers; more intellectual with some suspense over action, drama, and gore. So this fit the bill for me. If you like suspense, drama, and action the pace may be too slow for you. From reading several of the online review, I gathered that ‘Proof’, is a bit outside of Francis’ typical plot which tends to have horse racing as a backdrop. This went into depth about the wine and spirits industry. Overall, I enjoyed it and will be reading more from this author.

My first Dick Francis Novel.

This is the best of the many Dick Francis novels that I've listened to.
Complex, flawed main character. Unusual crime. Challenging mystery. Ruthless villain. All this forms an excellent story that is superbly interpreted by Simon Prebble. Just the right voice intonations, emotional expression, balanced emphasis, dramatic development.
He brings the characters and the conflict to life.

Excellent Mystery

mystery. great story

I tire of the hero who defeats all criminals, no matter how many and how well trained compared to the untrained hero. I would recommend this book.

Not your typical protagonist
