About this listen

In Rhapsody a fellowship was forged - three companions who, through great adversity, became a force to be reckoned with: Rhapsody, a singer of great talent and even greater beauty; Achmed, an assassin with unearthly talents; and Grunthor, a giant sergeant-major whose jolly disposition stands at odds with his deadly skill at weapons. Having fled the F'dor - an ancient, powerful evil - the three emerged on the other side of the world only to discover 14 centuries had passed. Their homeland had been destroyed, their people scattered across several continents, and everyone they ever knew had long since passed away...except perhaps the F'dor.

Prophecy continues this powerful epic. Driven by a prophetic vision, Rhapsody races to rescue the religious leader of her new homeland while Achmed and Grunthor seek evidence of the F'dor. These three may be their world's only hope, the heroes spoken of in the Prophecy of the Three, but their time is running short. They must find their elusive enemy before his darkness consumes them all.

A great continuace of the story

After the cliff hanger of the first book this picks up right after the first book. The story continues much like the first book and shows how many of the characters have grown. Rhapsody is still fairly oblivious to the world around her and personally that does break the immersion a bit but still an enjoyable story.

Absolutely absorbing & worth the obsession

I LOVE this series! It is my absolute FAVE books; #1 on my loooong list of beloved books. This audio performance is a wonderful credit to the books & to the author, Elizabeth Haydon. First of all, Haydon brought to life a gorgeous, intriguing, imaginative, absorbing world full of a vivid cast of characters that draw you in & pull you into experiencing their world. The eternal battle between good & evil, greed & compassion, love & hate is so well expressed that it's easy to feel assimilated into each characters emotions & experiences. There are some that you love or connect with, that you feel their struggle to maintain & create a more peaceful land, & root for them to overcome the powers that are against them & win the battle for good & life. There are others that you hate, that you exhort to fail in their mission to destroy the world & the souls of the population for evil. The terrain, the people, the ambiance becomes almost real enough to touch. Magic, power, blood, desire, sword fighting, dragons, royalty, hate, love...... If you are a lover of epic fantasies then this should DEFINITELY give this book a read & see if you end up reading the entire series over & over. Second, the narration is wonderful & beautifully performed. The ability to create, express, & maintain distinctive, different voices for EVERY speaking character through each book is one that he has absolutely nailed! He vocalized the emotions & action in a manner that makes it seem as if you are standing next to the characters, in their world with them, fully fashioning a realm, allowing you to get lost in the beauty & heartbreak of her universe. I can't praise & recommend these books enough to everyone looking for an epic fantasy that will keep you reaching for just one more read through, just one more escape into another universe full of all the ingredients that makes the genre so special! 5 stars across the board. Give it a read.... I promise you won't regret it!

Good.

There were some weird moments when you could tell the reading was out of order. There were a few parts where it was I. One persons voice and then it would jump to a different part of the book and then jump back again. (I've read the book and I know that it had to have been a recording or mixing mistake.) But other than that, it was a good listen.

A wonderful book but there is an error in the reco

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I liked this series so much that I bought it on audible even though I own the entire series in paperback.

Any additional comments?

There is an error in the recording at Chapter 45 of 58, 4 minutes and 17 seconds into that chapter the recording skipping a scene. It goes from Rhapsody and Jo talking in Jo's room in the Cauldron to Jo slapping Ash then immediately continues with the correct section of the book. "...and threw Rhapsody a packet of sulfured grapes. His head snapped back up and she glared up into the hood again this time catching a glimpse of blue eyes opened in shock by her blow. Maybe she's just growing up..." The part "His head snapped... eyes opened in shock by her blow" should read "Rhapsody watched Jo pop a few into her mouth, noting she had avoided all of the sweeter confections she normally gobbled down". I do not think anyone would notice this error that hasn't read the book. With that said I love this series and would recommend it to anyone.

Long, descriptive, wonderful tale

I read these years ago, now listening is fantastic however the voice actor sometimes sounds really off, and some edits are terribly done. It’s a 8/10 if you enjoy heavily descriptive stories.

A great story ruined by an annoying narrator

I read the original trilogy about eight years ago, and I loved it. The author does a great job weaving together enough new and unique story ideas that one can overlook how easily predictable the storyline is. Oddly enough, however, as I was listening to it in audiobook format, I started to dislike it. Parts of the story became almost unbearable, and I could not figure out why. During the second book, I realized it was the narrator that was driving me crazy.

It is not that he is entirely terrible. Indeed, some of his voices are great (e.g., Achmed, Gruntor, angry Ash, etc.). The problem is his voicing of Rhapsody throughout the series. His voice for Rhapsody is something both airy and effeminate, the combination of which just begins to grate on me after a while for two reasons. First, the majority of the story is from Rhapsody's perspective. Second, Rhapsody is a character with a musically driven, flowery dialogue style. Because of these voice and dialogue features, there were multiple occasions where I literally shouted out loud to the narrator, "Get on with it!" I have a feeling that I would enjoy him as a reader in another series, but I definitely do not enjoy him as the reader in this one. After 60 hours of hearing him read, I am seriously considering returning the third book so I can be done with the series.
