Each book in the Northern Michigan Asylum Series is a stand-alone novel.
Their mothers told them monsters weren’t real, but mothers don’t know everything.

This story does not do that. Everything is kind of "from this point forward." The story starts and the story ends. No time jumps. No clues given early in the story that you don't know are clues until something major is revealed. What happens in the story, happens. Nothing is explained away. It is exactly as it all seems. In a lot of ways, that is disappointing.
This story reads very well and if you haven't read any of the stories in the series, this will still stand alone as a good book. It IS good book. But in comparison to the other stories, for me, this one kind of falls short. I would much rather have the intricately woven tale that jumps through time and then meets together at the end. It feels more captivating in that way. This story is, as another reader stated, more of a scary monster story, but elevated.
The narrator does a pretty good job. Reads the story well and gives a good amount of emotion as applicable. I enjoyed the reading.
Overall, the story is good. I don't hold it as high as the other books in the series, but I still enjoyed the story.
More straightforward and I'm a little sad

Ms Erickson is masterful. She is one of my favourite authors. I have heard every book released so far in the Northern Michigan Asylum series and have not once been disappointed. Rag Doll Bones is no different.
The story starts off nice and slow, then the terror builds until you are biting your nails off. She creates such an experience when you hear the story, you are feeling everything the characters are feeling, you are right there with them running, screaming, worrying, wondering, scared, sad, just to name a few things the book offers. Its better than an 4D movie. When you think you have the answer and are slowing down, another twist unravels and gets you back into full speed. The story is addictive and i could not stop listening to it.
The narration was perfect for the story. Alan added good tonality and tempo variation in the scenes to change the levels of suspense as required.
This is an absolute must read. In addition, if you like suspense/thriller/mystery with a tang of paranormal and havnt heard the others in the series, put them to the top of your list, you wont be disappointed.
Note: this book was given to me for free at my request and i have left this objective review voluntarily.

Ashley and Sid's friendship is wonderful, and their love for books and horror stories! I can relate so well *laughs* But this summer, the horror will jump out from the books and take residence in their town. Children are disappearing, and one of the teachers, Max is worried. And he was right to be worried: soon children's bodies are discovered, mutilated. It was an animal attack? Or something different?
The story is, as always, gripping and full of suspense, and the way in which all the threads come together at the end is really great.
And for those like me who have read all the books, there is a surprising but truly delightful cameo in this one, too :D
Alan Carlson did a great job with the narration.
