About this listen

A ranger’s duty. The rotten heart of a king. Rebellion spilled from the blood of family.

Rew’s sorrow clings to him like a cape. He’s wrought death and destruction in his quest to defeat the princes, but the alternative is worse. The Mordens have ruled Vaeldon for centuries, and every generation collects its tithe in blood. It’s time for it to stop. It’s time to raise the banner and march to the final battle.

Anne has felt Rew’s pain, and she finally understands why he’s kept her at bay. Cinda knows the grim price for victory and that she must pay it. Raif and Zaine grasp for a life they can understand, but it is beyond them. The rangers are broken and scattered, hiding from the king they once served. All of them must come together behind the banner, or Vaeldon will be lost.

The king and his sons have twisted the people of Vaeldon into shadows of what they were. They’ve used nobles and common alike to feed their ravenous hunger for power. The rot in the kingdom begins at the throne, but it does not end there. Will Rew and his companions have the nerve to cut deep enough to remove the horror that has infected all of Vaeldon, or will their quest be for naught?

The King’s Ranger is a classic fantasy adventure, perfect for fans of Michael J Sullivan, Brent Weeks, James Islington, and AC Cobble’s Benjamin Ashwood series.

The story continues

Raise the Banner moves slower than the previous installments. Not as much action with a lot more introspective dialogue. All and all this is a fantastic series and I'm looking forward to the conclusion in the next book.

Excellent Stories and excellent narration

I love these books. Love the characters, the banter, the ending, the symbolism, and Simon Vance is always a top notch narrator. I've listened to the series 4 times now and look forward to the next 4 as well

Tight story and good storyteller

5th of 6th and each is well organized with stories of their own. However, the broader story is always at the fore.

Mystical revenge and reward

Book 5 takes the reader through Rues pathway up to killing his brother Valshon. This was a great read that keeps you engaged until the very end.

Narration

Up until this book, I loved the series. However, this one was slow and laid down with counterproductive dialog.

Losing Steam

While the characters develop more in this book, it never seems to shift, and the story keeps repeating the same framework from the earlier works.
