About this listen

One of the start-up world’s most in-demand executive coaches - hailed as the “CEO Whisperer” (Gimlet Media) - reveals why radical self-inquiry is critical to professional success and healthy relationships in all realms of life.

Jerry Colonna helps start-up CEOs make peace with their demons, the psychological habits and behavioral patterns that have helped them to succeed - molding them into highly accomplished individuals - yet have been detrimental to their relationships and ultimate well-being. Now, this venture capitalist turned executive coach shares his unusual yet highly effective blend of Buddhism, Jungian therapy, and entrepreneurial straight talk to help leaders overcome their own psychological traumas. Reboot is a journey of radical self-inquiry, helping you to reset your life by sorting through the emotional baggage that is holding you back professionally and, even more important, in your relationships.

Jerry has taught CEOs and their top teams to realize their potential by using the raw material of their lives to find meaning, to build healthy interpersonal bonds, and to become more compassionate and bold leaders. In Reboot, he inspires everyone to hold themselves responsible for their choices and for the possibility of truly achieving their dreams.

Work does not have to destroy us. Work can be the way in which we achieve our fullest self, Jerry firmly believes. What we need, sometimes, is a chance to reset our goals and to reconnect with our deepest selves and with each other. Reboot moves and empowers us to begin this journey.

Real talk. It opened my soul up to the human I am meant to be, the work I am meant to do and the adult I’m ready to become. Thank you Jerry.

This book changed my life.

So deep and real. Must read no matter where you are in life, business or leadership.

a profoundly human and deep book which leaves you with many more questions than answers. this book also testifies to the simple fact that success is really not what we make it out to be. success is deeply personal and individual, but certainly not about money, Fame or power. Jerry's quest to become a better human and therefore better leader will leave you asking many questions of yourself and how you would like others to remember you when the time comes. Worth the read and if you have the time, read it twice.

Profoundly human

he spends a lot of time talking about his personal journey and examples of how he's helped people and not much time talking about doing the thing he does. I guess that makes sense. if he takes about the thing he does he might not be able to sell that anymore.

there are occasional question prompts, but they don't get much time or explanation.

if you really want to hear about how this guy cries a lot, and then figure out in your own how maybe some of the stuff he talks about could be interpreted, rearranged, and changed to apply it to your life, then this is a great book.

if you were hoping for a book that leads (guides, points in a general direction even if it's not specific) you down any kind of vague or generic path of self discovery, this is not the book for you. it's kind of like watching someone build a birdhouse but not explaining anything they are doing our what tools they are using, then hoping you can figure out how to build a birdhouse of your own. obviously this kind of work that he's doing isn't as step by step as a birdhouse, but it's almost like he's not even trying to help.

More like a biography than leadership self help

It's about time that we looked at our roles as leaders with compassion and get down to the nuts and bolts of why we do things. We definitely attract the relationships into our businesses that we've needed to work through in our lives. This book takes a very non ego driven and humble look at what we need to change in ourselves first ...

A wake up call..

I was lucky enough to hear Jerry speak. This book is a great follow-up! A must-download.

Glad I bought this

Would have preferred to read the hard copy on this one. The content is amazing though and I will be buying the hard copy to revisit the important ideas Jerry presents.

Great book, not sure about the audio

the guidance, perspective, strategies, and raw honesty shared here are precisely what organizations need more of.

If you’re wondering if this will help you, I challenge you to take the book to heart, and see what happens

I wish more leaders would take the messages within to heart.

It’s a great book, but I’d say it’s a bit early for me. I believe the lifecycle of a human consists of three main stages:
1) Just living (childhood)
2) Striving (adulthood)
3) True belonging (wisdom)

Many people never grow out of Stage 1. They just live, without purpose, without goals, without testing their metal. Some get stuck in Stage 2, but mistaken their false grit for true grit and spend most of their lives trapped in a never-ending cycle of “busyness”. And only those who have evolved from just living, experienced both false and true grit - can find their true belonging and zen. Skipping Stage 2 altogether or spending very little time in it, or hopping over it prematurely - will rob you of fully understanding what true belonging is. And bearing in mind that this book is all about true belonging, I think it needs to come with the caveat that one shouldn’t find zen (true belonging), until they have properly experienced true grit.
