Publisher's summary

Red Country: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*

They burned her home.

They stole her brother and sister.

But vengeance is following.

Shy South hoped to bury her bloody past and ride away smiling, but she'll have to sharpen up some bad old ways to get her family back, and she's not a woman to flinch from what needs doing. She sets off in pursuit with only a pair of oxen and her cowardly old stepfather Lamb for company. But it turns out Lamb's buried a bloody past of his own. And out in the lawless Far Country the past never stays buried.

Their journey will take them across the barren plains to a frontier town gripped by gold fever, through feud, duel and massacre, high into the unmapped mountains to a reckoning with the Ghosts. Even worse, it will force them into an alliance with Nicomo Cosca, infamous soldier of fortune, and his feckless lawyer Temple, two men no one should ever have to trust....

Red Country takes place in the same world as the First Law trilogy, Best Served Cold, and The Heroes. This novel also represents the return of Logen Ninefingers, one of Abercrombie's most beloved characters.

*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Love the Booktrack Editions!

I purchased Red Country a couple months ago and Loved it. When I logged on to Audible today, I saw the Booktrack edition. I had no idea what "Booktrack Edition" meant, so I read the blurb about the added music/soundtrack. I listened to the sample and thought it was awesome! The music REALLY adds to the narration. Luckily, Audible allows returns and exchanges. So I returned my non-booktrack edition of this audiobook and snagged the Booktrack edition. Listening to it again right now! LOVE it! Please, Audible! Do this to MORE books! At least add it to all of the books in Abercrombie's First Law world!

Booktrack review

The story was amazing, this review does not have anything to do with that. However the booktrack tries too hard with little results. I would say only 30% of the booktrack is congruous. The other 70% is annoying and out of place. Overall I like the effort but it failed in execution. I would recommend the normal version of this book.

Masterful work, in every particular.

Thanks to Tim Ferris for the recommendation - I hadn’t come across Mr. Abercrombie’s work previously. Usually more of a hard-science sci-fi reader. But I’m awfully glad to have found him! Use of language, characters with truth in every one, storylines of gold, that are familiar, but not predictable.

This is the seventh or eighth I’ve listened to of his, and they do not grow old, for all the aforementioned reasons, but not least thanks to Steven Pacey’s voice! There is a master of the art and craft of voice acting of ever there was one.

music and sound effects were too much.

Story, narration, and characters were awesome, though. i enjoyed it as much as any of the other First Law series

magnificent

this might be my favorite book in the first law world, right next to the heroes. always have been a big fan of classic westerns and I love the themes and ambience applied to this world. a story of redemption and a fantastic send-off to one of the greatest characters in fantasy. thank you Joe

Thumbs up for the book track edition

Previously I had to stop listening to an audiobook that had ‘extra audio effects’ it was terrible. So I cringed when I realized after buying this one that it had extra audio as well. But this was very well done and subtle. It supported the story and created mood etc

Enjoyable

Maybe not as exciting as the previous stories but certainly worth the listen. Did not enjoy the added music that much, it was kind of repetitive.

Abercrombie Does It Again

I’ve been looking forward to listening to this for a while and I really wish there were more booktrack editions for this series. It was incredible. The characterization of all characters both old and new never ceases to surprise, intrigue, and amaze me. I think this was a perfect conclusion while I will miss these characters I have no doubt I’ll fall in love with the new ones.

A new direction for the Circle of The World

Combining elements of the Wild West and frontiersmanship with Abercrombie’s iconic fantasy setting, an excellent tale grappling classic Abercrombie themes like revenge and the disappointing nihilism of a life dedicated to bloodshed, as well as less-explored topics like spirituality, belief, and a world changing faster than the people inhabiting it.
