About this listen

From beloved historical romance author Marion Chesney comes the second installment in the Regency Intrigue series.

With little to live on but her romantic daydreams - which frequently starred the dashing Marquess of Fleetwater - Jean Lindsay lived a rather dismal life with her nasty, drunken uncle.

Jean was always the object of ridicule, that is, until news of her unexpected inheritance spread. Suddenly her worn dresses became "quaint" and her forthright manner turned magically to "charming", but to Jean's horror, someone wanted her dead!

With the marquess nearby to save her pretty neck, Jean felt quite safe... and quite smitten. As for her hero... how had an unsophisticated child from a Scottish manse turned his head and his heart askew?

I don't usually write reviews, but the Narration was so awful I decided to do this - the story was good & I wish I had read it vs listening. The narrator was stilted - in an effort to enunciate clearly, her voice sounded choppy. When she did the male voices or when reading the "daydream" sequences, she sounded like a zombie. I don't think I will ever listen to another book by this narrator.

Unbearable Narration

So enjoyed this delightful book .. love how the narrator was so into each character.. a must read for those who love old Victoria ways

Very very good

Totally unlikeable characters. Too much back snd forth between love and hate on the flimsiest reason.

Not the usual- not in a good way

It was amusing to watch a completely inexperienced girl try to navigate society. The death threat was not well developed.

Lovely but slightly predictable

This book was annoying and boring. Annoying because of the unlikable characters. Jean, the main protagonist, was both annoying and silly. The focus of her love was way too arrogant, snobbish, and totally unromantic. The supporting characters were silly and stupid. I couldn't find one likable character in the whole story except for the lawyer, and he had a very, very smaller part in the story. Typical storyline. This is part of a series, and I hope the next book isn't as silly as this one. This is my first disappointment with the writing of Ms. Chesney.

Seemed to drag on and on. I like these kinds of stories but the two main characters might be better off without each other.

Very long

The reader for this novel was flat and boring. Terrible job. Think I would have enjoyed the story more with a different reader.

I really enjoy this author but the reader was horrible

A bit overlong but full of Chesney charm. Lots of Scottish flair. Not huge fan of the narrator though.

A bit overlong but full of Chesney charm.

I enjoy this author. The creativity in her expressions made me laugh out loud at times. Characters such as “Frank” made me grin. I could see with my minds eye as this heavily pregnant woman picked up her swollen belly and ran. The story had just enough suspense and intrigue to keep me listening

Smiled through most of the book

Love the author but I couldn't stand jean and all of the daydreaming mishaps. She is stupid and annoying, I made it pretty far then I was literally mortified for her and couldn't listen anymore.

ugh!!!
