About this listen

At age 11, Alex Sinclair pledges an oath to the Duke of Chatham promising to serve and protect his illegitimate daughter, Lucy FitzHarris. Nine years later, the duke unexpectedly takes Alex up on his vow, offering the future Laird of Balforss his daughter's hand in marriage.

Now a man, hotheaded Alex has difficulty convincing Lucy - who would rather starve to death than marry a vulgar Scot - to go through with the arranged marriage. Once Lucy arrives in Scotland, she cannot resist the magic of Balforss or the allure of her handsome Highland warrior.

But when Alex seemingly betrays Lucy right before their wedding, she is tricked into running away. Alex must rein in his temper to rescue his lady from unforeseen danger and Lucy must swallow her pride if she hopes to wed the Highlander she has come to love.

Charming Highland romance

The narrator didn’t seem to realize there’s a pause at the end of a sentence. Is that how she speaks normally? It would stress me out having a conversation with someone who spoke that rushed. It certainly didn’t make for pleasant listening. I feel out of breath just remembering how it sounded. No way could I listen to the whole book to find out if the story was any good. The part I did manage to get through didn’t impress me much though so I don’t think I’m missing much by just returning it for a different one.

It was a good story. Not my favorite of the series. Lucy seemed too whiny for me.

Lucy drove me nuts.

The story was good, it could have been a bit more juicier but in all it was good. The reader did a wonderful job taking me in the story.

Interesting story

I usually listen to a book all the way through but I couldn't finish this one. The female main character had almost no redeeming qualities and I couldn't continue. She may be better later in the story but I just couldn't make it that far.

While I enjoyed the story, there were moments the writing felt green enough to pulled me from the flow of the story. This took place in areas where I struggled to get through the staccato, the one dimensional accents, and the love scenes that sounded too corny. Some corny is expected but this had too many contributions to my frustration. I did enjoy the story and its dimensions. However, I expected a Langley to show and there be a fight for Lucy's affections between him and Alex. I hated to see that storyline end so abruptly. Overall, I enjoyed it.

This book was SOoooo good, it's been a long time since a love story had me so enthralled.

Great Read, Never Boring

This was the cutest little love story I've read in a long while. No smut in the first chapter here people (those get returned immediately as they are usually garbage). Just two young people fighting their pride and learning how to love. My favorite kind of romance novel...a slow burn with lots of drama and one that saves the climax til the end...no pin intended ;-).
