About this listen

Thawed out after a century of cryogenic sleep, Captain John “Black Jack” Geary has led the Alliance fleet through Syndicate Worlds space, thwarting the enemy at every turn—even within his own ranks—during the long journey home.

Alliance prisoners of war are being held at a labor camp in the Heradao Star System, which also happens to be the location of the majority of the surviving Syndic warships. Determined not to leave any of his people behind, Black Jack Geary orders the fleet to strike hard and fast to rescue the POWs with minimal Alliance losses.

The raid is successful, but victory is short-lived. Geary discovers that the Syndics plan to ambush the fleet with their powerful reserve flotilla in an attempt to annihilate it once and for all—but he doesn’t know where the enemy is located.

And as Geary has the fleet jump from one star system to the next, hoping to avoid the inevitable confrontation, saboteurs contribute to the chaos …

The books , of the books in this series are great. They all are based in faith honor, duty , and family. Everything a career in service teaches . Battle tactics aside all of these books will keep you cheering for the good guys. The only thing we never learn who the syndicate are. Who are they and why the animosity between them? Oh well enjoy the for what they are.

Fantastic series

Great read. Very difficult to put down. Action scenes after action scenes. I liked the flow of the book from one scene to the next. Great narration.

Hard To Put Down

Every new book in the series is better than the last. If anyone has read prior book in the "Lost Fleet" series and is on the fence about buying the next book, just do it.

just keeps getting better

Here we go again. I really like this series and listen to it every few months. Some scenes I listen to again and again because I know they drive me nuts. Why, because once in a while everyone needs to role a sanity check. I am totally convinced that Campbell learned everything he knows about romantic relationships from the book his Mother read to him when he was little Jackie, "How does Billy Tell Bridget he wants to get laid".

This one in the series kept me on the “edge of my seat”! The author brings in more treacherous variables and creates more story arcs. I had to keep listening until I finished. Highly recommend!

Thrilling Story

Geary finally gets the fleet home with the ‘Syndics’ using them the whole way as a war rallying point. With the Syndics mounting all their ships to one final attack on Geary and the fleet will he make it to safety? Read the books to find out! No spoilers here at all.

The story line continues to follow along with what is really happening within our real military forces. Except the intentional plotting to kill your leadership. We see the ones behind the plans to ‘kill Black Jack’ finally outed and like anyone who knows they're going down they take everyone they can with them, but with a twist. People rarely look at the long term result of their actions and when they're forced to they get scared real quick.

At the end of the book we see that Admiral Block wasn't alone in his aspirations. Captain Falco was more like Admiral Block in the end than was expected. The question is what about the ‘Admiralty’ and what they will do.

We also get to see the ‘Alliance Government.’ If you’re mad at our government for the intentional blockade they've found themselves in then the ‘Alliance Government’ will shock you.

In the end of the book a whole new path is opening. I can see this series as the ‘Dune’ series as never ending. I just found on Audible the two sub story lines and I will pass on them. Time for a new series because this one is becoming predictable as ‘Dune’ did.. Any recommendations from Steve Gibson?

Well they got home! Now what?

This series has become one of my favorites . As your resting it’s a simple pleasure to keep you comfortable . Swinging in your hammock .

Ultimately satisfied with the continuation of the lost fleet. I hated the first chapter of just narrative between Dijonay and Geery. Lots of battle descriptions in this. Also voice changes for Dijonay and Rheone, very slight though. And start pronunciation changes. My military mind couldn't handle that.

Good, but...

The narrator is amazing, giving each character life. Using various accents and tone inclinations I never gave during my own reading. Jack C. writes another fantastic novel, but still follows the same "spoken but unspoken" sexual tension subplots that really detract from the main plot, and although the narrator does well with the implementation, it still has me skipping ahead until we get back to the fleet. Look forward to the next one!

Read the first four books, this is my first audio book both ever and for the series.
