They are idols to millions worldwide. I hear their names whispered in the hallways and blasted through the radio. Their faces are never far from the television screen, tormenting me with images of what I gave up.
To everyone else, they're unattainable rock stars, the music gods who make up The Sound of Us. But to me? They'll always be the boys I lost.
I broke all our hearts when I refused to follow them to LA, convinced I would only bring them down. Years later, after I’ve succumbed to a monster and my life has become something out of a nightmare, they are back.
I'm no longer the girl they left behind. But what if I’ve become the woman they can’t forget?

This is a book of mistakes and regrets, broken promises, and heartache. It's emotional, a brief moment of happiness and elation followed by fear, shame, remorse, anger, hurt. There is a sense of hopelessness hanging over Ari. The guys radiate anger and hurt. The tension is palpable. The sense of foreboding from the beginning grows with every page creating absolute dread. We get to know Ari, Tanner, Jensen, and Jesse through flashbacks and current days. These characters are flawed, damaged. Their weaknesses are fully exposed. Their love for one another is not freely shared until it's too late. Communication fails. Their choices, especially Ari's are a series of mistakes. This is all captured beautifully by the narrators. Lacey Gilleran brings Ari to life. and Stephen Borne portrays all of the guys brilliantly. I loved this story the first time I read it. This audiobook reminded me just how much. Maybe even more.
Even better than the first time

This book kicks you in the feels, something this author is well-versed in. Through past and present scenes the story builds up and adds to the mystery of what went wrong.
The character development is amazing, the plot so different from your usual rockstar romance. This is definitely one that will stick with me forever.
Loved this

In book 1 we get to see how Ari met her guys and got flashbacks showing how they started their budding romance before it all crashed and burned. We also get to see how she is living in the present with an incredibly violent and abusive husband and how she finally does something for herself that changes her life. I won't go into details but she comes back into their life and they each have different reactions and the emotions surrounding everyone are big swings/rollercoasters haha. I enjoyed seeing her grow up with them and let them in (not completely though) after the horrible parents she was stuck with. We get to see them stop being the playboys that they were and its almost instant love but in a contemporary book. Lots of cute moments, not steamy back then but there is some passion during the confrontation but the real steam comes in book 2.
I will say I thought some things were rushed a bit/not fleshed out as much as I have seen in more recent books by this author. Definitely has improved on that as her writing career has gone on, love the development and artistry elevation (if that makes sense haha). The confrontation with her and the guys towards the end felt like they rushed their feelings and one was like ready to forgive her of everything already haha. Also, the instant falling for her. That isn't really realistic in a contemporary story (yes I know its fiction but it's 3 teenage boys and a girl who has been emotionally abused and neglected by her parents). But again I still really enjoyed it and went on to book 2 immediately. OH and the guys.....so much swoon 😍😍😍 Loved them so much.
Narration for me was a hard one to rate. I was definitely leaning towards a 3 stars but the emotions that were portrayed swayed me to a 4. I think my main issue was the quality of the audio was evident. It was grainy, skipped in places, some repeated sections. And Tanner's accent changed quite a bit haha. Sometimes he didnt have one, sometimes I got confused thinking Jensen was talking but it was definitely still Tanner 🤣. Besides those 2 things, both narrators did a good job. I hadn't heard of these 2 before but will definitely be checking out more by them in the future. Thought Stephen was fab (4-5 stars) and again the issue with Lacey and her changing of accents and her audio quality made me keep the audio at a 4 (her individual performance was like a 3-3.5).
Loved the start to this rockstar RH trilogy!
