About this listen

Forget life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.... Surviving is a feat in and of itself.

Seventeen-year-old Ellie Hudson immerses herself in the few things the Supply Wars haven't destroyed - her ranch work and secret baseball games with her best friend.

But her power-hungry stepmother is leading a group of domestic terrorists in an effort to start another Civil War and frame Ellie as the instigator.

Ellie’s lost her father, her home, and her country, but nothing can rob her of her need to preserve the American dream...or what’s left of it.

Don't miss book one in a post-apocalyptic survival series with a dark, fairy-tale spin. It's a home-run listen for fans of the Maze Runner series, the Lunar Chronicles, and the Selection series.

Cinderella with a Bat

This was a fun read and I love a good dystopian novel. The Main character was well written and very relatable for a teenager in the situations she faced. I found myself truly getting emotionally involved in this book and with the characters. I look forward to listening to the next book in the series.

Great dystopian Cinderella story that will keep...

... you on the edge of your seat!

I absolutely absorbed this book! This book is a fractured fairytale, set in a dystopian future America. The main character, Ellie, is an all-American girl, living in a heart breaking situation. She is not the classic damsel in distress. She is a Cinderella that played a game of baseball with her best friend rather than attending the fancy gala. She has insecurities that make her so relatable. I see a lot of my own teenage heartbreak throughout her story of romance. Ellie's best friend, Johnny, is the sweetest guy. He has had a hard life of his own, and they have bonded over that since childhood. The abusive stepmother is sincerely the worst. You can't help but despise her. I wish I had gotten to know the step sisters a bit more, but I think we may get to see more in future books. As I got closer to the end of the book, I found myself holding my breath! I wanted her to be safe! There are some scenes with danger that kept me on the edge of my seat. The author did a great job with the ending. It wraps up this portion of the story nicely, but still leaves the reader with questions and wanting more! Thank you for this book L. Blaise Hues! I love it!

Engaging YA Dystopian

Fast-paced plot, dynamic characters, and intrigue fill this fairytale retelling.
Recommend for fans of dystopians, post-apocalyptic world-building, and strong female protagonists who grow along with the story.

YA for sure💜

Definitely a good fit for a young adult. A rather interesting and enjoyable near future post apocalyptic/dystopian version of Cinderella.
Narration was well done.
I wont be listening to the subsequent books but that's because I'm not s young adult.
I was given a copy of this book by Aethon audio at my request (thankyou) and am voluntary leaving my review.

Takes from Cinderella, but Better

I have to admit when it first started with the main character, Ellie, living with her stepmom and 2 stepsisters in her father’s house, I was a bit concerned. This has been done and overdone. But I have to admit the changes made to the story and the way the author made it her own, was definitely worth the read. Was it ‘based’ on Cinderella? Yes, but it evolves into a better story.

Ellie lives with her stepmother and two stepsisters. Her father passed away after coming home from the supply wars with an injury. Ellie does the cooking, cleaning, takes care of the farm, barters at the market, etc. She has a hard life, but takes breaks and plays baseball with her best friend, Johnny, in the broken down stadium. Her step mom calls her Violet because all the bruising she is given turns purple.

Life moves on during this time with most men were lost in the war. Her stepmom starts dating the mayor who was a war buddy to her father and things go downhill from there and they end up marrying. Oh did I mention the stepmom told everyone that Ellie was not talking and gets upset around people. Well, Ellie has had enough and decides to run away after the wedding, but things don’t quite go as planned.

Clever and smart

I loved this version of the Cinderella story. It was so original, and different enough from the typical Cinderella story that it was totally unpredictable. I did love the occasional hat tip to the classic. The author gave brilliant descriptions that really drew me in. Can’t wait for the second book!

Interesting, fun, and patriotic!

I purchased these audio books to give me something to keep my mind awake during a road trip! And they were perfect! The characters were dynamic, and there were many surprises and plenty of intrigue. The moment I finished the first one I had to buy the next one!
I'm an army wife, and as such thoroughly enjoyed the patriotic and military themes!

10/10 would recommend to a friend!

I seriously really enjoyed everything about this book. The characters have depth to them and while you like them at first, they still grow on you. Since it follows a Cinderella story line, certain things are predictable but done in a very unique, enjoyable way.

An Intriguing Story

As a late 20s male I didn't know if this was a book would be my style but I was impressed! The book reads easily with good flow and I never felt bogged down, there was always something interesting happening. The book being available on kindle, hard copy, and audio was also really helpful so that you can continue the story even if you need to stop and make dinner. In the end I've found myself checking the calendar for when the next book comes out and it's not too long so get started on this one right away.

I double dog dare you to not love this one!

Here's a coming-of-age story that almost slipped under my radar unnoticed... but I'm sure glad it didn't! 😊 This is another top quality work published by Aethon publishers. Aethon has this knack of getting great authors, and matching them to top quality narrators, giving me a book I didn't know I needed!
This is a Cinderella tale wrapped around a near-future apocalyptic story. Say what? I mean I always loved Cinderella, but wrapped in an apocalypse?!?? how's that gonna work? Well it actually worked beautifully! But the real clincher and why I got the book was Tess Irondale's snippet of Ellie. I immediately fell in love with Ellie and her voice, as I listened to that brief moment!
So yeah, the book is full of hardship, hope, baseball and apple pie... and I double dog dare you to not fall in love with Republic of Ruin!
