About this listen

Life is exciting if you're one of the top RCMP officers in the country. With a few good years under her belt and a promotion so close she can almost touch it, Staff Sergeant Kristen Bailey of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has everything figured out. Until she meets Ashleigh Paige. Beautiful, naïve, intelligent, and trusting, Ashleigh is the perfect possible lead for Bailey's case. All she has to do is get close to her. The only problem is Ashleigh's a paramedic, and in Toronto, paramedics and cops don't mix. Undercover and searching for answers as a Toronto police officer, Bailey uses her charm to get Ashleigh to trust her and open up about what she knows surrounding the case of a dead police officer and the paramedics who might have murdered him. The trouble is, the closer she gets to Ashleigh, the more the line between informant and intimate gets blurred.

Contains mature themes.

Good story

I liked the story well enough. With this book I realized the difference between a Narrator and a voice actress.
This was a Narrator and a so so job. Cadence a bit fast which created inflections all over the place. One male character sounded like he had a cartoon voice. Just enough distractions to take me out of the story here and there but listened to whole book at one sitting.
I will look for other books by this author.

Great book

From time to time I like police book, this one was an excellent one. The MC were well written and so was the plot. Narration was good as always

Bad listen but good read

The reading of this is very uncanny for the subject matter. It’s very fast with little rhythm or cadence. Additionally, the inflections feel more like a news anchor reading a teleprompter rather than a performer reading this type of novel. I would read the book and find it enjoyable but it’s hard to fall into the story and get lost with this audio because it’s so disjointed and rushed. Major bummer

Almost a 50’s fraught atmosphere

The story seemed to be part modern cop drama and part throw back to 50’s forbidden lesbian love. The back and forth torment if I-want-to-be-with-you-but-can’t got tiresome. The narrator was over the top with breathy ominous gravitas. I think the author could improve and deliver a higher quality healthy modern love story. The action cop scenes, though implausible, were compelling. I listened to the final chapter to enjoy the happy ending.
