About this listen

Claire Gracen's life is picture perfect. Her career as a marketing director is on the brink of being legendary, and her marriage to her high school sweetheart has never been stronger. No, wait. It has. It used to be amazing and fulfilling, but one day Claire realizes that she's been living a lie and her best friend and husband have committed the ultimate betrayal. Broken and depressed, Claire is in need of something new - new city, new job, new friends. When she happens to attract the interest of the sexiest man she's ever met, a man significantly younger than her, she immediately turns him down - only to later discover that this man is Jonathan Statham, self-made billionaire and CEO of Statham Industries. Her boss.

Jonathan Statham is unlike any man she's met before. He's used to getting whatever he wants - whenever he wants, and he isn't about to take no for an answer.

Good But ...

OMG, could the male narrator have been any worse? It’s s good story and the female narrator was great but the male part sounded like he was just learning how to read! Painful!!

Heartwarming billionaire romance

I really enjoyed this one. The older woman and younger man story was a new one for me but if worked. The sex was a little repetitive but otherwise a good read.

Grow up!

Geese - I get playing hard to get, but WTF. Act your age, woman. And how’d she go from being okay to every man’s insatiable dream as soon as he’s there to witness it.
I stopped this ~50% in because I just couldn’t do another few hours of the back and forth.
As always, the sex was hot, but the characters are worse than high schoolers with the BS.

Great context of older woman, younger man

Give me a read about forty-somethings and I'm in, it's such a tangible, refreshing context for me. I felt totally engaged with MID LIFE LOVE because it also included a favourite setting of mine....office romance. This book is about a 40 year old divorcee who has lost herself in her heartache of the last 4 years. Claire is incredulous at the attentions of Jonathan Statham, her 28 year old boss and CEO of the company. She cannot understand his attraction to her and thwarts each of his approaches.

This book is rich with fabulous side characters in Claire's daughters, they made me laugh and brought such tangibility to the storyline. I never felt like I knew where the story was going and this was such fun to devour. The many twists and turns kept me hooked even though I felt the last 5% was rushed. All the characters were well developed and the writing just flowed. I need more from these two and I hope my desire is fulfilled

Entertaining

Mother of two almost grown-up daughters falls in love with a much younger man, who is also her boss.
Even though the book uses a lot of clichés and is predictable, it was great fun.
I found both narrators to be very excellent: they brought the characters to life.

She Sucked

I had enough of HER. I get why she felt the way she did at first but then it didn't take long for me to be sick of her. I wanted him to walk away... several times. She did so many juvenile things it just made me shale my head. OMFG! ONE thing her subs was right about and that was that she was stuck up. I don't care how pretty she was she was ridiculous . Especially since she was right there with him the whole time, fooling around with him like a consenting adult then she'd do something stupid. The only thing she did that I agreed with and actually spoke our loud right before it happened was when she hauled off and slapped the hell out of the EX tramp/friend. When the meth head momma opened her mouth as if she had a inkling of a right considering she and the husband put the kids through hell and didn't raise them even alittle plus couldn't stay clean and she listened to her no sense when he had already told her the story was done. She wanted worried about what a meth head was going to say when She had the man loving her and chasing her, NOT willing to let her go... I was done.

So angry I could spit

I don't leave reviews when I am this angry, but I feel so betrayed that I just have to. I should start by saying the narrators were fine. CJ Bloom was better than the male narrator and that's fine. I didn't buy the book before either of them, I bought it because it was written by Whitney G and I generally enjoy her books. I'm usually here for all the crazy sauce Whitney G's going to throw at us. Her books are provocative. I expect them to be now. They aren't always my favorite because she writes about people I don't always like. Again, that's okay. She doesn't have to write characters that I like. This book was chugging right along and I was fine. I was here for the opulence. I was here for the billionaire tossing his money all over everywhere. I was here for the betrayal by the ex-husband. I was here for all of it. And then about 75% in and it went off the rails. It went off the rails in a way that I felt betrayed multiple times. I have very few things I don't want to read about. They are my hard NOs and this book went in that direction. If I hadn't been listening to this book, if I had a physical copy in my hands, I would have thrown it against the wall and probably burned it. I am that angry about what happened at the end. I could rant about this book but I need to sleep tonight so I'm going to stop now. maybe I'll pick this up in my goodreads. Suffice it to say the book is good for most of it and then you're probably going to hate everyone.

I wasn't a huge fan of Claire when I listened to Hailey's story but I wanted to know more about her backstory with Jonathan.

It took me a long time to finish this audio because I didn't care much for the narrators and I never warmed up to Claire. More often than not, I thought Jonathan could do better. I'm hoping the extended epilogue shows that Claire actually is a good fit for him.

Make narrator ruins this.

I am only on chapter 17 of this book and it’s really hard to listen to the male narrator parts of it. He has zero inflection in his voice and you can tell he’s reading a book he’s never previewed before. You’d think narrators would read ahead for themselves to get an idea of how to voice the story when recording. That’s what I would do anyway. Where is Joe Arden or Sebastian York when you need them?
