Perfect Prequel

Rising is the perfect prequel to the The Second Death Supernatural Story. It is a short story that will leave you wanting to read the entire series. If you have read the series then this adds a little back story. The narrator is on point bringing the story to life. I highly recommend this author and this series

Opening salvo to a frightening new series!

Rising is a short prequel to The Second Death Series. Our protagonist, Jessie is a young girl in a small town struggling to grow up in an abusive home. Jessie loves to read and escape her despicable environment in the pages of her favorite horror story. A new book store opens in town and Jessie unknowingly “acquires” a book on black magic. Jessie is mysteriously drawn to the book titled Arraziel (more likely Araziel); her curiosity garnering just enough knowledge to summon a Fallen demon. Her misplaced anger towards family and friends leads her down an unwitting dark path of revenge and torture. Those whose lives are devoted to protecting society from the Fallen are alerted to the events in the small town and the fact that an ancient book is missing. Thus begins the tale of Jessie, consumed by the power of a dark overlord, and the people obligated to stop her and recover the book. This opening story holds the promise to be an exciting and chilling adventure. Good prequel to an interesting supernatural series

Rising by Brian Rella is the prequel in The Second Death Supernatural Story series. In this prequel, we're introduced to Jessie, a young girl who is unfortunately plagued with some pretty crappy people in her life. Olga, on the other hand, has recently relocated to New Orleans, where Jessie lives, to keep something safe from the world. Well, Jessie gets her hands on it and unleashes one of The Fallen, a nasty demon, which Olga has pledged her life to protect the world from. Things quickly go from bad to worse and though the story is short, it definitely left me wanting to listen to the next book in the series. Rising was fast paced and an enjoyable ride. I'd definitely recommend it to others, especially once the second book is out because you'll want to hear more once you finish this one.

Todd Menesses did a good gob with the narration in this story. Though the two characters introduced in this prequel, Jessie and Olga, were female, I'm betting that there will be quite a few men popping up as main characters in future books in the series. He voiced the various characters well, differentiated their various accents perfectly, and nailed the voice of the demon. He's a narrator that I'd have no problem listening to in the future. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.
