Riven

I’ve never been great at letting people in. Life is easier if I bury my feelings. People tend to let you down, which is only proven when my best friend, Rex, accidentally kills a man and lets me take the fall.

When I get out of prison, the last thing I want is to go back to Clayton, Oregon, but it’s where my grandma lives, the only person who’s always had my back. My plan is to stay out of trouble, steer clear of my old crew, save up, and the second we can, leave town for good.

Parrish

I want nothing to do with my family and their illegal activities. With Riven back, I worry things will get worse. He and Rex have always brought out the worst in each other, but then I discover Riven went to prison for something my brother did, and my family isn’t happy to have him home.

Riven wants nothing to do with me, and I don’t blame him. But like a moth to the flame, I’m drawn to him. It starts out as mutual lust, Riven sating the pleasure he craves, while I get to fulfill my first-crush fantasies. But with every moment, I see there’s more to Riv than anyone knows.

Not everyone would see him as a good man, but to me, he’s the boy who used to try to keep my family’s lifestyle from becoming mine.

And now he’s the man who risked his heart to fall in love with me…and the one who’d risk more to protect me.

Risk the Fall is an ex-best friend’s brother romance that contains violence, drug use, crime, and death of a non-main character.

Good drama!

Good background on these messed up characters. We get glimpses of Parish, Riven and the horrible Rex as teenagers and how dysfunctional they all are. With the crappy parents they had they really didn’t stand a chance but….goodness prevails in the end. Great secondary characters and an awesome narration round out this book! Love this author as well!

Beautiful love Story

This beautiful sexy steamy love story could not happen to better characters. Riven is so strong and broken waiting to be loved by Parish. Parish is the perfect man full of romance. They both symbolize sexy and rough.

Moving Forward from Your Past

This was an emotional romance with a lot of realistically flawed characters. They are all from broken or dysfunctional families in a small town with no real positive direction while they were growing up. None of them are heroes, there is no insta love and immediate change of personality. Riven has a temper and has to really try to keep it in check. Riven and Parrish interact and circle each other a bit but you can feel the underlying chemistry and connection from them knowing each other for so long. Kale was the perfect narrator as he has a voice that really portrayed these two tough but lost men. Both frustrated with their situations and just trying to get by. Becca, the ex, well you want to not like her, you kind of don't like her, but you can totally relate to her. These characters are real, and you need to see them all find love and stability. Beautiful listen!

Loved the build up to friends and more

Riley has become one of my favorite authors. She always has us on the edge of our seats, clutching our tissues throughout the story. And this was no different. It was intense and so full of passion. Riven and Parrish’s chemistry was so easy to see from the start. I was completely obsessed with them and their relationship!

I absolutely loved the audio. Kale Williams is one of my favorite narrators and he did an amazing job portraying Riven and Parrish.

The smartly written MM I’ve been wanting!

Having suffered through several incredibly disappointing titles, I was so happy to find this book. The narration is beautifully done - realistic without unnecessary gimmicks when voicing women and children.

The story line didn’t take any unnecessary turns to silliness. The characters and plot points made sense and Hart stayed on track. My reviews often go on with what I didn’t like. Sure, overused words and phrases, eg “bile rising” do make their appearances, but not overly so. Riley is able to craft a smart story without pandering to the world of tropes. Highly recommended.

gritty romance

this was an ok story for me. the mc was kind of a doormat for people who didn't deserve it. and even after that lands him in jail for 6yrs and he loses everything, he still willingly played the doormat. other than that, it was a decent book. the plot was thin. the hook was too shallow for the setting and circumstance
