Lots of loose threads from the first book about Jason (Fighting Slave of Gor) are tied up. We follow Jason as he begins to carve out his own destiny, and it is satisfying to see him go from slave to vagabond to hero. While there is a lot of slave girl stuff going on, what drives the story is masculine relationships. Jason learns much and is able to become a stronger man because of his friends, and that is a good lesson to learn.
