About this listen

Severin of Langthorne returns to his family's estate to find his family and land in ruin. His father and brother dead, his mother demented, he is the new Baron Louges, an empty title due to the destruction of his world.

Meanwhile the Earl of Oxborough, Fawke of Trent, has selected Severin to marry his daughter and only heir. While his new place in society seems enviable, his new wife detests him. The ill-matched marriage, coupled with "Rosehaven", the mysterious property in which they live, presents a challenge once again for Severin.

that green eyed monster

Loved the story, almost hated or rather disliked the heroine Hastings but she grew on me. The hero Severin started out on a bad foot with me but eventually redeemed himself. The story is set in the 13th century in East Anglia, England. A knight returning from the Holy Land finds all of his family except his mother dead, the lands in ruin and disrepair , his people starving. He needs to marry an heiress to repair his family's holdings. The Earl of Oxborough is dying and he has no male heir to carry on his family name. Both men in need, agree to Severin of Langthorne, Baron Louges marrying the Earl's daughter Hastings adding on the Earl's family name to his own. What follows the wedding is hate, dislike, jealousy, deceit, hidden family secrets, kidnapping and greed among other things.

Narrator ruins another one

When the narrator reads the characters like whining mewling airheads, or a 25 year old guy like a crotchety old man and mispronounces a characters name the whole book it’s hard to to not be distracted by it. I mean, how could the producer allow the name issue! I don’t understand.

It's ok

I used to really dislike Anne but she's ok once you get used to her. Story is alright, it's more nostalgic for me than anything. The lead man is a bit over bearing, rhe lead female is a bit whiny but overall they are alright. It fills the time so that's all I really ask of it. Could it be better? Sure, but it also could be much worse.

Very good read!

I have read some of the other reviews and I can't seem to understand why everyone is getting their panties in a bunch! Like some of the other reviewers wrote, look at the timeline to which the book is coming from. It was a very different lifestyle to where we are today. In that life, us females were not given a choice on husbands, they were chosen and demanded that we had to marry that person. Don't do it and you are either chastised, beaten or disowned by your family. Anyhow, I actually had a great time listening to this book as with all the other Song Series and Catherine is one of my favorite authors. I can't wait for another and hope that she have some other lost soul (men) that needs a strong woman to stand by him and put him in his place.

narrator's fake accent & pronunciation is awful

I loved reading this book but seriously couldn't stand listening to her say SeVOReene instead of SeverIN over and over. It was literally enough to make me stop listening. Just read the book. The stupid fake accents and attempt at men's voices are irritating. If I hear the word SeVOReene ever again I'm going to stab someone with a fork. I had no idea how many times his name was said until I heard the story read with that awful stupid attempt at a fancy pronunciation. I wish I could find this book read by someone else.

Always a favorite

I first read Rosehaven when i was a young teenager. Ive always taken to revisiting Hastings and Severin once a year. Now with audible i can listen while i sew or knit. I found the voice actress perfect. I absolutely loved every minute. I highly recommend it. Ill surely be listening to it again one day.

Fun to read

Some of the scenes are offensive to women but we have to keep the story in context. It is historical and unfortunately the way it was all those years ago when women were considered a mere a possession and it was a man's world. I took solace in the fact that the women maintained as much independence as was possible during the times in which the story was set.
