Publisher's summary

At the age of nine, Josephina Cochrane is mockingly dubbed the "Duchess" by her half-cousin, Marcus Wyndham. Little does Marcus suspect that the Duchess will one day reign sovereign over his own future. For the Earl of Chase, the Duchess's father and Marcus' uncle, leaves a double-edged inheritance, a legacy that will bind their fates.

When the Earl of Chase dies without a son, Marcus stands to inherit his fortune and title. But the old earl, bitter that Marcus escaped the tragedy that claimed the lives of his two sons, has laced his legacy with vengeful stipulations.

But there is another Wyndham legacy, one beyond the Earl of Chase's rank and holdings - a treasure from long ago that's shrouded in legend. Before the rival legacies can be settled, the Duchess and Marcus must solve two mysteries - one from the past and one that shadows the present.

Critic reviews

"Unexpected plot twists, witty dialogue and an engaging cast of secondary characters contribute to the charm of [this] Regency romance." ( Publishers Weekly)
"A terrific addition is the voice of Maggie McClellan. Clarity, even pacing, consistent vocal quality, and successful accents, American and British, make The Wyndham Legacy a great listening adventure." ( AudioFile)

You know what is said about Assuming

I really enjoyed this book & the series. It has some devastating segments, comic segments too. In this time period, seldom did women have control of her money, unless she marry. So this book also describes the suffrage before the woman movement. I enjoy many of Catherine Coulter's work. The narrator was excellent.

Very difficult to get through....

The narration didn’t fit the story. The story took place in Regency England. However the narrator slipped in and out of varying accents all poorly done and mostly inappropriate (southern?). All in all it was very disappointing.

Good book

It is a good book although very light on history and the villain cousin is too obvious but still worth a read

Lovely, entertaining and a good read

This was a lovely tale of an independant woman, with a free spirit and loving heart. It is entertaining, has an excellent commentary on the times via verse. I really enjoyed it, the leading man was frustratingly loveable and the supporting characters entertaining and diverting. Well written and spoken.

listen to the narrator before you purchase

The story is quite lovely. The narrator is horrific. She cannot keep her voices for the characters separate. She has bounced between every accent available to include Southern. If that is how she read the book in her head, I feel sorry for her. I had to go out and buy a paperback copy of this book to read it so that I could get her horrible descriptions out of my head. I hope they attempt having this book done by a separate narrator.
