About this listen

Blackmail is an ugly word but an even uglier deed, and dragging Mickey Mantle into it is just plain un-American, not to mention deadly.

But things have been going well for the Forrest sisters. Their business is thriving, they have a handsome, slightly mysterious new neighbor, and best of all, they haven't found a dead body in more than six months.

Under the spell of an early summer heat wave, Old Towne seems to be cursed. A doghouse goes up in flames. Mail is being misdirected on an epic scale. The town has acquired an elusive jogger whose rather obscene indiscretions are frequent and obnoxious. Worst of all, there's an extortionist at work.

Suddenly, Daisy and Rose Forrest find themselves knee-deep in the middle of a sinister blackmail scheme. When the postmistress turns up bludgeoned to death, Rose is attacked in her own home, and their beloved dog is brutally duct-taped, the sisters know they have to get to the bottom of it. With their extraordinary mother, Angela, at their side, the ladies take on the hunt for an invaluable baseball card, a malicious prankster, and a blackmailing killer.

A delight

Daisy and Rose are a delight and their mother, Amanda is the olive in their cocktail. Who knew murder could be so much fun?

Roses Are Dead My Love

Blackmail can be deadly... an enjoyable cozy mystery where the Forrest girls save the day while enjoying their various beverages.

Penny Clover Petersen kept things interesting with all the twists and turns. I love how the humor was woven throughout.

I wasn’t a fan of all of the different voices that Kim Rossi performed, but overall it was performed well.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Very good

I found this audiobook to be very good. It has a great combination of mystery, murder, suspense and humor. The narrator has done a wonderful job of bringing each character to life.

Wonderfully Entertaining

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily leaving this review and all opinions expressed herein are mine.

This is the second book in the Rose and Daisy seriss. I have not read the first book in the series but had no trouble following this story or the character's motivations. There are plenty of references and brief summaries of events that likely occurred in the first book. Having written that, I would be interested in reading the first book in the series and continue to follow the series. This is a stand alone book with no cliffhanger ending.

Here, the mail is being misdelivered or just plain not being delivered. The townsfolk begin to complain to an indifferent and belligerent mail person. Soon, the mail person is found murdered by Rose and Daisy. Additionally, as a result of the misdelivered mail, the sisters have also received letters meant for a blackmailer. Is the murder of the mail person related to the blackmail? And if that's not enough for a small town, a male jogger is running through town displaying his private parts - much to everyone's chagrin.

This cozy is so charming and a complete delight. It's funny in both the antics of the sisters and their mother, as well as, some of their one-liners. Another enjoyable aspect are the cocktails the sisters serve - recipes are provided at the end of the book.

Overall the narrator did a good job. She did different voices for the various characters. However, some of the voices she created were a bit distracting to me - one voice was almost a whisper and another can only be described as a very stiff aristocrat with odd pauses and inflections.

Now that's entertainment!!

I couldn't wait to find out what happened! The narrator did an amazing job at keeping me engaged with her voice adjustments and inflection. And the story! Wow! It kept me guessing and got me through a close to 10 hour drive that felt like half that. And the drink ideas!!! Who needs a bartender when the Forest sisters got you covered?

Daisy, Rose & Angela make the best trio!

Daisy & Rose are two sisters, and Angela is their mother. Angela is a little quirky firecracker, while Rose and Daisy each have their own playful personalities. They often butt heads in a way that creates a lot of comedic relief. These 3 make this series so special, and Kim does a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life. The mystery is fun and has plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing!

Loved it.

This book was fantastic. The sisters, Rose and Daisy and their mother Angela worked to find out who killed the post office worker. This story has blackmail, missing baseball card and murder. This book was well written and the characters were fantastic. The narrator does a fantastic job. I was gifted this book at my request in exchange for an honest review. I definitely would to listen to more in this series.

Fun Cozy Mystery

This totally fits in the cost mystery genre but it does have a much more adult writing style so it is geared for the adult audience. There's quite a bit of language (no f-bombs at least), sexual references (comments and jokes), and a nude male town jogger. That being said the story was great and it kept me guessing.

The narrator does good, I just personally didn't care for a few of the voices she did. One of women had more of a whisper voice and the grandma sounded like a little kid. It just was honestly distracting and made it difficult to get through, but I would recommend listening to the sample to see if it bothers you.
