About this listen

There are sharps and flats. Majors and minors. And then there’s the sound of a Top 10 hit. That sound. It shouldn’t be so, of course. A song is, after all, a simple thing. At its heart, it’s just a collection of verses and choruses, maybe a bridge to stir things up and tie it all together. A few chords with a solo thrown into the middle. That’s all there is to it. And yet, for an art form that’s ruled by and relies upon mathematical patterns, there is still an unquantifiable quality that defies reason and explication, but which registers immediately in the human heart (and soul)—and makes all the difference between album filler and chart killer.

Cry in Your Beer Sad

This less than thirty minute listen has quite the twist and turns, and will keep you listening as two country music singers meet up in Nashville. I am coming to like these Cold-Blooded shorts. They are off-beat and usually the bad guys get their comeupance. The car dealership owning, has-been country music singer looking for the comeback hit song meeting up with the young song writer, singing alone in the dark studio hits you in the gut. You're immediately pulling for the young guy to get his break in the business. The author did a great job with this one . . . Don't miss it.
