About this listen

Gunslinger: A quarterback who throws deep risky passes on the field and off....

I hate sports, and he is football royalty. I like quiet and predictable, but he's sex and swagger personified. I didn't particularly care for Saint Stevenson the first moment I laid eyes on him, but his warped brain seemed to process our initial meeting as foreplay.

I have a meticulous five-year plan in place for myself and my career, but now this huge, cocky, self-absorbed quarterback who I've been assigned to at work is seriously f--king it up.

He's the ultimate player on and off the field, and it doesn't make any sense that I'm falling hard and fast for the arrogant baller; but there doesn't seem to be anything about our love story that makes any sense at all.

Contains mature themes.

I had a hard time finishing this Audiobook. The Female lead just turns me off on this storyline. Jeremy York is always awesome when narrating..

Narration type: Dual Narration

The Hero: Saint (a.k.a. Gunslinger) - he is a 6’5” professional football quarterback. He was a shining star in college, won most of his games, won the Heismann trophy and was a first-round draft pick. Though since then he has been playing on team that loses much more than it wins. He is cocky and blames it on his teammates, saying he can’t win without his team backing him up. The defense doesn’t stop the other team and he doesn’t get enough time to throw the ball. He can’t wait until he is a free agent and can move to a better team.

The heroine: Sabrina - she works in the financial industry in New York, her company specializes in managing the financial portfolios of people in the music industry which she loves. She has had a crush on one of her co-workers since he started there over three years ago, but he doesn’t see her as anything but a co-worker.

The Story: a while ago on a company retreat after embarrassing herself in front of her crush who just started at the company, Sabrina went to the bar to get some dutch courage to talk to him again and ended up getting sloppy drunk. Saint met Sabrina at the bar that night and thought she was attractive even though she was talking about her crush on her co-worker. He ended up walking her to her room and putting her to bed. Three years later, he sees her again at a restaurant and decides he wants her.

Saint hires Sabrina’s company to manage his millions and they open a sports division, giving Sabrina his account since that was the only way he would sign the contract. So, despite hating football and athletes, she is stuck with him. I did like the premise though it seemed to take a while to get to it. I liked that Saint was so cocky at first but learns that he has to rely on himself and has to step up and take charge of his own destiny, if he wants his teammates to step up and protect him on the field.

This book was told in dual narration and was narrated by Jeremy York and Hayden Bishop. Jeremy York is a good narrator, though not one of my favorites. I think the voice should have been deeper for such a big man like Saint. I had the opposite problem with Hayden, her voice was too deep for my liking. She kinda reminded me of Emma Stone except for hers was even a bit deeper than Emma. Though it was scratchy like Emma’s voice, so it kept reminding me of Emma.

Short but cute sports romance!

Female narrator makes the already awful FMC even more unbearable. Whiny, inflexible, dumb… it was rough. It does get better throughout the story, but it’s a rough start.

FMC is an uphill battle

I was able to enjoy the story and listen to the whole thing, even through the female narrator was not my favorite. Her male voices were blah but I don’t expect every narrator to be able to pull off low and sexy. The sorry was sweet and funny so it kept me interested enough to finish listening. I think this same female narrator is used in the next two books in the series. I’m still going to listen because the writing was good.

The female narration was not my favorite

Story can not be followed, female narrator voice has grandma effect and story becomes nonsense.

My one and only complaint is the length of this book. Because it's short everything from the story line, getting to know your characters to their connection is very condensed kind of like Swiss cheese. It's good, compliments my sandwich but it's full of holes. Leaving this book feeling like something is missing and I am being rushed. I like Saint and would have loved to see more of his team, brother and family. Would have loved to see Sabrina outside of work. This is my first book by LLB and I like her style and wit she's talented, but I would have sat through double the listening time to spend more time with this couple.

Good but Short ...

This was such a fun story to read. I fell in love with Saint. The story was kind of rushed and there were parts that I was wondering... "HuH?" But it was really a good story, just wish there was more build up to the MC's getting together, then married...

Fun Quickie

This was quite entertaining. The male narrator is amazing. I enjoyed the back-and-forth between the two main characters.
