About this listen

At the end of an especially raucous day at his neighborhood bar, private eye Leo Waterman is surprised to see his old flame, Rebecca Duval, walk in the door. But King County's medical examiner is here on business, not pleasure. Two dead bodies, covered by an old coat that once belonged to Leo's father, have turned up in the trunk of a car. The only thing that seems to connect the men is a controversial local church and its charismatic pastor.

With help from Rebecca and surveillance expert Carl Cradduck, Leo begins to put the pieces of the puzzle together. While a pair of goons do their best to chase him off the case, Leo painstakingly retraces the victims' final days, charting their unusual search for redemption - from a downtown homeless encampment to suburban McMansions to the shores of Salvation Lake. There Leo must confront an opponent hell-bent on retribution in order to get to the twisted truth about the killings.

Not his best work

The level of dumb and bad luck in this story is very hard to swallow. Bad in your sights? Shoot him. Seems simple enough. Not for Leo. Make excuses and then leave everything up to fate.

An enjoyable book when you are in the mood for

An enjoyable book when you are in the mood for another Leo Waterman episode. Leo is set up for murder by a neighbour while investigating the deaths of two cadavers found covered with his father's distinctive overcoat. Meanwhile, in the back story, his wheelchair bound IT pal is almost beaten to death and his former ex girlfriend and local Medical Examiner weakens and takes him back. So far I have found author G.M. Ford and this character Leo Waterman maintaining a certain level of entertainment and I'm sure I will listen to the next in the series at some point in the future. This one just makes it into the top tier of my library.

Fun mystery thriller!

Leo Waterman's creepy friends and great dialog make Salvation Lake a winner. Patrick Lawlor has the ideal voice for novels in the Leo Waterman series.

This is such a crazy ride. The characters were great and reader excellent. It had our attention from the beginning and never let go. The writer did such a wonderful job on this book and the laughs are an added bonus.

Irritated

The narrator's voice made it impossible to finish this book. I recommend paperback or on your kindle

We love the 'mise en place' that truly captures the eclectic PNW

The narrator is so annoying that we find this a difficult listen. After actually reading several earlier books in this series, I wanted to share the fun with my partner during our car trips. I bought this and we are regretting my choice. The narrator is really bad! I have over 250 books in my Audible Library and have only returned 2 in over 10 years. I would return this but my Partner is willing to tolerate the voice because of the love for our PNW characters
