About this listen

"The last enemy to be destroyed is death." (1 Corinthians 15:26)

Through years of poverty, racial tension, and legal battles, Ruby Graves has suffered the worst the Great Depression could throw at her. But an enemy she couldn’t possibly imagine awaits just over the horizon.

After she and her brother, Henry, escape to the tropical paradise of the Philippine Islands, Ruby volunteers as a nurse at a medical clinic in Manila. Although surrounded by beauty, Ruby can’t shake her guilt over leaving Matthew behind, even if it was for his own good. And even worse, God hasn’t spoken to her since the fateful day at Cold Spring.

Meanwhile, Matthew Doyle arrives in the Philippines with the Corps of Engineers, determined to live the life of faith that Ruby would have wanted for him. Despite the rumors of impending war, he’s drawn to the islands’ promise of adventure and, like many of his fellow soldiers, believes the superior forces of the United States would quickly thwart any attack from Japan.

But everything changes on the morning of December 8, 1941. As the Japanese close in on American forces in the Philippines, Ruby, Matthew, and Henry are swept onto the jungle peninsula of Bataan in a desperate attempt to hold out for reinforcements. New enemies emerge, testing their strength beyond anything they could have ever thought possible. Can Ruby and Matthew find their way back to each other and survive the onslaught of the Japanese assault?

Saving Grace is the highly anticipated third installment in the Healing Ruby series by Jennifer H. Westall.

Saving Grace

This book was a fantastic listen. Cannot wait for the last book in the series to come to audible. I so love the characters and I hope
the author continues with them in a new series much like Karen Kingsbury’s Baxter series. I actually chose to listen to this book in front of Francine Rivers new book which is high praise indeed!

love it

I was so anxious reading this, so many things happen that I don't want to happen. I want a hallmark happy ending for Ruby. Of course that would be a short ending, seems she has so many things happen to her, her faith keeps her going, at times she feels God has left her. This series is so amazing, pushes me to become closer to God. My only complaint is I wish the book was twice as long. I didn't want to end my time is Ruby's scary world as God watches over her.

The best audio series I've ever heard

The three books in this series by Jennifer H. Westall are the best audiobooks I've had the pleasure of hearing. Each book just keeps getting better with suspense! I want more from this author!

I loved this!!!

When I started this book, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it…. But I was so wrong! This book is written about a time in history we aren’t allowed to talk about any longer…. But it’s an exceptionally well written account of the invasion of the Philippines in the 1940’s. Grace is a young woman who escaped a sentence that she didn’t deserve… and ended up in the middle of this conflict. Her boyfriend, at the time of her escape, thinks she is dead…. But he is on the island as well, and finds her.

There is so much happening in this story and it’s exciting and sad and frustrating…. I loved it! Jennifer Westall was so thorough in her research and her telling of the story, that you can almost put yourself there.

And I Arndt and Matt Godfrey are excellent!

I’m on to part 4!!

A war love story

I loved this book! I think it was my favorite so far out of the series. I love learning about the history of this war and having the love stories in it. God is wonderful!

Nail-biting tension through WW2

This is the riveting third book in the Healing Ruby Series.
I've had the privilege of experiencing all of these, through the audio version. Absolutely a must-read story!
Ruby has gone through so much already.
Now, in this book, she is working as a nurse in the Philippine Islands, and is caught in the middle of the terribleness of WWII. (Be forewarned--there is much detail included here, regarding the war, it might be a bit much for some readers. Nothing too graphic, but yet, that war was so awful, and must be described as such!)
The author wrote this novel in a very authentic way, staying true to historical facts as much as possible. I really knew little to nothing prior to reading this book, about what those nurses experienced there in that terrible place and time in history.
Ruby is as caring and generous as ever.
Matthew! Yes, they meet again (whew!). So much heartache and baggage to work through.
Her brother Henry.
If you've read the earlier ones, you will feel compelled to continue reading their saga. And if you get a chance, be sure and listen to the audio version--it absolutely enhances the story!
I received a complimentary audio version of this story, which did not influence my opinions--all opinions shared here are my own opinion entirely.

Reading/Listening outside the box

I honestly read /listened to this book because I received it in a giveaway and Andi Arndt is one of my favorite narrators. However as a avid romance listener, I knew this was going to be different and surprised myself with not wanting to quit listening. Thank you Andi for celebrating audiobook month with such a great giveaway.
