Great thoughts for widows and divorcees

I appreciate the points the authors brought up to consider prior to a remarriage. Lots of things to mull over. I didn’t mind the prompts to reference the workbook. I didn’t buy the work book and still got a lot out of this content. If I find a serious relationship in the future, I’ll return to the workbook with them as a practical resource.

An amazing resource chocked full of fabulous tools and insights and advice for making your second marriage work!

I cannot say enough about this book. I wish that we had listened to it along with our workbooks before we were married. It's been 2 1/2 years and I'm finally listening to it even though I bought it before we said, "I do," and there have been some ups and downs we could've avoided. The information the Parrots give is unmatched-- don't short change yourself do the workbooks and read the book even if you don't take the Symbis: I haven't--I'd love to but I just haven't had the resources. But buying the workbooks and doing them together while listening to this is the most invaluable gift you can give one another.

Sometimes oversimplified but mostly great advice

Offered very helpful tips and advice for step-parenting and relationship material similar to the original book. Very good. Felt some of the material was oversimplified, because they didn’t or possibly couldn’t take every circumstance into account but spoke in generalizations.

Very helpful

Take it with the assessment! It was very very practical. I consider myself well educated about such things but this made me uncover new valuable points.

Workbook needed

I liked the information a lot, but it's important to know that there is a companion workbook you'll need. It costs extra.

This is a sales pitch

I've managed to get through half this audiobook and frankly would like a refund. Every ten minutes there's a sales pitch for one or more products or services, and references are made to these products for further information that goes beyond some of the more surface level information provided in the audiobook. Additionally, this book is religious in nature, which is not obvious from the product page, as it is for other similarly religious books. One of the examples cited in the book is the relationship between Mary and Joseph -- it makes me wonder how the authors would counsel clients who came to them insisting that the wife was pregnant with a child fathered by god.

Annoying workbook pitches, otherwise good

If you could sum up Saving Your Second Marriage Before It Starts in three words, what would they be?

Common sense counts.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I did not have a favorite character. I liked the way the husband and wife switched off in the narration.

What three words best describe Les Parrott and Leslie Parrott ’s performance?

Good hand off.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No.

Any additional comments?

I could have totally skipped the forward as it was a pitch for the book, work book, and testing. The interruptions of workbook pitches distracted from the main content and grated on my nerves. Much of this was common sense but the stories enriched it to reality. Some of this is very repetitive where it was almost beating a topic to death. I probably would not buy this had I known what I do now about the content. This is only within the first chapter, hoping it will get better by it's finish....

Hmmm....

Heads up, this book is supposed to be accompanied by several workbooks. You’ll soon find out, though because half of this book is just the authors referencing and trying to sell those workbooks. But don’t worry, they’ll give you a code for $5 off it on their website.
I know the authors say they did extensive research before writing this book, but it is hard to take second marriage advise from people who have not been through a first marriage coming apart. Especially when their book seems like they just paraphrased their first book (saving your marriage...) and inserted 2nd into the advice.
I don’t know if the authors are truly trained psychologists or just self proclaimed counselors that feel qualified because they “know the Bible.” At one point the wife narrator says “if you are depressed, it’s not your spouse’s fault, it’s because you CHOSE to be depressed”. Who chooses to be depressed? Where in the mental health textbooks do they teach that depression is a choice? Can I choose to not be depressed and magically feel all better?, because that would be great. While I agree that you shouldn’t blame depression on your spouse and think that if they would just change or go away your depression would be cured, but depression is not a choice.
The book is a pretty typical Christian based marriage book. It does not dig deep, nor get into the nitty gritty of abuse or the really deep tragic stuff that can make or break a marriage.
One thing I will say, though that is positive is they don’t preach: wifely respect and submission to their husbands.; which can be pretty standard from Christian marriage books. In fact they go a different direction and talk about how much women need respect. That was really cool. Also the back and forth narration by the two authors was good and made for easy listening.
