About this listen

Homicide detective Mandi Murphy had seen enough bloodshed on the streets of Houston to last a lifetime. After a botched drug bust left a friend dead, she wanted out of the city. Peaceful little Sawmill Springs seemed like the perfect spot to start over. Six weeks on patrol proved the town to be as quiet and serene as she'd imagined.

When things soured between FBI agent Kayla Dixon and her lover, she was ready for a change from the fast-paced life she was living. Her father, the police chief in Sawmill Springs, offered her a job, and she decided a change of pace was just what she needed. Her wish for slow and peaceful didn't materialize, however, as mere hours after she started her first shift, a prominent citizen was gunned down.

The two women are thrust together to solve the murder and return Sawmill Springs to the sleepy small town the residents expect. As the investigation grows, so does their attraction. There's just one problem - Murphy thinks Kayla is straight. Kayla admits to a failed marriage when she was 18, and an ambiguous affair with another FBI agent convinces Murphy to steer clear of her. Kayla's innocent flirting is met with skepticism and doubt...and temptation. Another murder not only strengthens their bond as partners but has them fighting to escape the clutches of a murderer. No longer able to ignore the budding attraction between them, they must decide if they are willing to start over...this time, together.

Not too bad

As usual Nicol as a narrator was great. The story was ok, but struggled to finish it. The two heroines were a good fit but towards the end it was simple and clean cut.

I'll read it more than once

I love Gerri Hill's work and this book is no exception. The dialogue is realistic - I felt like I was eavesdropping on real people. I didn't give it five stars because I couldn't get around the small-town-cop-equals-stupid formula. I realize murders aren't something smaller towns deal with regularly, but it doesn't mean their cops are as clueless as some are depicted in this story. I worked for a large police department (Austin, Tx) and we frequently worked with smaller departments around the state without finding this level of incompetency. This didn't stop me from loving this tale, however.

If you are a fan of lesbian romance you will not be disappointed, folks. The narration was pretty darn good, too!

Thoroughly enjoyable

Narrator was a little too monotone for my taste. Other than that it was well written and held my attention. I definitely reccomed this book. You will not be disappointed.

Another great listen!

I do love Gerri Hill's books! Nicol Zanzarella is a fantastic narrator. The story is great. I love the confusion created by the characters' assumptions of each other's motives and self labels. It's easy to relate to her characters. And, Nicol Zanzarella's narration brings out the subtle dry humor. Bravo!!!

Loved it!

Another great Gerri Hill book. A cop drama & who-done-it in a small town. Love the descriptive location & scenery. Great characters & Nicole’s narration is A+. On to the next Hill book!

Best book Gerri Hill has written Yet!

Sawmill Springs is the of two woman with. Strong photo ice or FBI background s each trying to escape to small town living, because of things like failed relationship to other officers on their team or stuff like that.
Then the unthinkable happens in Sawmill Springs, a murder! And the two most experienced officers get put on the case. Our young transfer from Dallas homicide and the daughter of the sheriff and also an ex FBI agent. And the only two female gay officers on staff.
As murders and mysteries progress so does there attraction and flirting. Just one problem; Dallas believes the chief's daughter is straight and therefore untouchable, still the attraction wins out, to spike the background of a deadly killer on the loose. It comes down to trust and good police work in this very exciting mystery/ romance novel that is the best one yet, from Gerri Hill: Who also brought us high caliber books like Hunter+s Way, Target, Devil's Highway just to name a few.

Great experience...

This story was funny, sexy and narrated perfectly. I always like to read the books and then listen to the audiobook afterwards, on both accounts this was a great choice for me indeed.
