An ancient enemy stirs once more . . .

Seal of the Worm is the tenth and final book in the critically acclaimed epic fantasy series Shadows of the Apt by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

The Empire has vanquished its enemies at last, but at a terrible price. With her chief rival cast into the abyss, Empress Seda must face the truth of what she’s unleashed in her hunger for power. Now the Seal has been shattered, the ancient Worm stirs towards the light for the first time in a thousand years. Already it is striking at the surface, consuming everything in its voracious path. Unchecked, it will ravage the world.

As her victory seems hollow indeed, Seda knows that only the most extreme solution can lock the Worm in the dark once more. But if she’ll go to such horrific lengths to save them all from the Worm, who’ll save the world from her?

Start the epic journey with Empire in Black and Gold, the first book in the Shadows of the Apt series.

Critic reviews

Breathtaking scope and vision. Adrian Tchaikovsky is one of our finest writers (Gareth L. Powell, author of Embers of War, on Children of Ruin)
A joy from start to finish. Entertaining, smart, surprising and unexpectedly human (Patrick Ness, author of The Knife of Never Letting Go, on Children of Time)
Satisfying Conclusion • Complex Characters • Unpredictable Plot • Rich Worldbuilding • Professional Performance

Could have ended it better . It left me wanting just a little more closure in some character . And more depth with others

Wished it ended a little stronger

Great series. Took me a year while taking breaks but well with it. Hope others get through it all.

10 books!!

At the beginning of this series, I groaned a bit over the sheer commitment of time I would have to make to get through the end book, Seal of the Worm, but it has been a pleasure and a joy all the way. Fantastic, unparalleled story and the best narration made every listening minute a pleasure.

Final book of 10 book series

Good ending albeit it felt a bit rushed. Still a very satisfying end to the series :)

Pretty good

I just finished book 10 and I am left kind of speechless. Such an utterly satisfying conclusion to an amazing series. Every loose end is wrapped up even ones I had forgotten about, making it that much more satisfying. So imaginative and well written, a new bar has been set for me. And not to mention there were many times throughout the series where all I could think about was how talented Ben Allen is. Top notch performance!

Such a great series!

Excellent end to a series. I’ll probably read the companion. Love how it tied up side stories

Excellent ending to series

Loved the last book and I think that there was so much story to tell, while comparatively so little story in one of the previous books, that this story could have been told in greater detail over more books. That's the only "con".
Other than that, I feel deeply sad the saga is now over, there is this sense of loss of the world and its characters. I have no idea how the author managed to build a world where the characters feel so real and there is a sense of real connection with them.
I have immense respect towards Mr.Tchaikovsky. Along with Terry Pratchett, he is the most talented fantasy author in my opinion.

One of the best books of the saga

This story across ten novels is absolutely amazing! The audio performance is frustrating at times with how quiet it can be however.

One of the greatest epics ever

I was just hoping to have more time to settle down at the end rather than just have it in an epilogue. Overall happy with the series but not crazy about this last book.

Great series but this one seemed abrupt
