About this listen

Secession is a fast-paced adventure novel set against the current-day backdrop of a politically divided United States.

Zachariah Bass is a young Texas Ranger, struggling to define his role in serving the people of the state's remote western territories.

Working a series of heinous crimes, Zach uncovers a dark, treacherous secret - a conspiracy that could alter America's future and result in the secession of Texas.

Co-authored by P.A. Troit and best-selling writer Joe Nobody, Secession explores a world where a hopelessly gridlocked government fuels an ever-deepening divide between right and left. The public's frustration with the country's direction forces desperate leaders on both sides of the political spectrum to consider splitting the union.

Based on actual historic events, current economic realities, and a growing global trend, Secession immerses the listener in a lifelike scenario that could be America's future.

Interesting considering the current political undercurrents in this country

I enjoyed the story having lived through the Katrina events in New Orleans the author wasn't far from the mark. Now living in Texas I see the increasing interest in investigating the viability of Texas becoming an independent nation in the future. My only complaint is the irritating chime sounds punctuating the narration. I hope the next book omits the chime noises.

Different from what I expected.

Not sure some of the content was necessary. A bit darker than I thought was necessary, but an interesting read otherwise. Gave it four stars because it was different and well written. Again, the assassination attempt was a bit over the top and sort of distracted from the story.

I liked it.

It was a good book. Different from other types of books I've been attracted to. But I liked it. I will buy the second book when it is available. I didn't care for the jingles after a conclusion was made.

disappointed in narrators portrayals of characters

good well thought out story line with multiple characters that interweave and come together nicely .
a little disappointed in portrayal of the young Texas Ranger to timid and portrayed as weak and indecisive by the narrator.

Definately this is going to be a great series.

Completely enjoyed this book, characters were well definded, and the story was just flat out fun to listen to. Kept me "plugged in" and couldn't put it down. Other than the rather loud music between some of the chapters that was a bit distracting over-all this series is going to be a winner. And to be honest I'd venture to say a session would look like this and the character who's the "president" had me laughing yep that'd be her all right and her embarassing the entire country husband [back in his day]! You'll have some pretty hairy points to go through as would be expected and the hero was about an average guy as you'll find in law enforcement I'd say having been a cop awhile back. There are a few times when you listen and say damn that is what is happening here in the USA, and if Texas actually did break away from this dictatorship I'd move there in a minute. As I would most certainly!

Narratation was awful and sound effects even worse

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No

Who was your favorite character and why?

No favorites

How did the narrator detract from the book?

His reading of character intercourse was like two six year olds arguing in the back seat about who is touching who; whiny and obnoxious.

Did Secession: The Storm inspire you to do anything?

Yes, return the book and definitely not suffer through the sequel.

Any additional comments?

Probably would have been an interesting story but for the narration which threw me off of the plot. Whoever had the idea for the horrible sound effects throughout the book should be taken out back and soundly beaten about the head and shoulder area until he apologizes to everyone who bought the book!

Narrator....

This guys seems to studded for every character. He has good inflection and tons for the different folks but it sounds like a first grader reading it sometimes.

Normally a decent narrator,

Mr. Wright missed the mark on a few male voices, making them all sound frustratingly female, or at least feminine. Not what I expected from TX Rangers, etc.

A little shocking in places

There are some really dark and shocking bits but once you get through those it's pretty good. It's worth a credit to listen to and will probably get next one in the series
