About this listen

Another romance for those over 40. Can one sexy silver fox face the woman he once left behind but never let go?

Her.

A widow at 44, her husband left her a letter. Contact Denton. Once upon a time, the three of them had been best friends. Mati Rath isn’t sure she should look back. Her heart isn’t ready, or so she thinks.

Him.

A pleading phone call forces him to make a decision. I’ll be there. Yet, he hasn’t been home in 27 years. Denton Chance isn’t sure he should return. The past still haunts his heart.

A desire that never left them, along with circumstances beyond their control, brings the past to the present.

Can one sexy silver fox face the woman he once left behind but never let go?

Sometimes, love deserves a second chance.

Female narrators southern drawl was irritating. I didn't feel the emotion in her dialogue. Male narrator was great. Story was great

Bit of a ho hum because of female narration

I am finding a new respect for over 40 romance. I had to do a star though because I'm developing a new pretty peeve. Main characters not communicating. when you truly think about it a great deal of the issues could have been solved if Maddie was told what caused the rift between Denton and Chris. I dislike how she found no issue with Chris even after the big reveal. It's overall a great read but everyone defending Chris' actions aggregates me.

No more running

I might have enjoyed the story more if the narration had been better. It just took too much effort to listen.

Cute story, awful narration

Good overall story. I enjoy the older characters! I always hope for second chances as I missed out on my own.

Didn’t think the narrators’ voices matched the characters, though both were okay. Actually, he was better.

Also wish the covers in these series looked like how the characters are described. On to LB’s next story.

Good overall story

I really loved this story and these characters but it's a shame that the narration was lacking as it kept me from really enjoying it. Both narrators had good inflection but were just reading the book and didn't embodying the emotion. There's so much feeling to this story, especially from Mati and IMO the narration lacked that. I should have read the book instead, but it won't prevent me from reading more Dunbar books. I love her storytelling and her over 40 characters.

So good yet lacked in narration

This book was so good in many ways. The plot was unique, the relations were well layered and the characters were mostly well developed. Maddie, however needs a lot of work. She has no backbone throughout, most of the story but what really hurt her character was the narrator. I’m sorry but this female narrator was boring and unemotional. She sounded like she was reading the pages for the 1st time and the sex scenes lacked any luster or appeal. The male narrator is hot and exciting to listen to. LB Dunbar books are good books though. I’ve listened to her other books and truly enjoyed them.

Good Story but Needs New female Narrator

I’ll be honest. At first I didn’t care for the Maddie narrator, but the further I got into the story, the more she made the story.

Interesting story

And don't like leaving negative reviews - BUT - Authors - PUULLLEEEZZZ take care in finding the right narrators, the wrong ones ruin your story. In this case it was painful ... and painfully slow ... I had to speed up to 1.5 just to get thru it - and even then it felt like a chore. And now I'll have to avoid any books w this female narrator.

The story had great promise - and I do love the idea of 'older' romance - but overall this was too long, with so much being repetitive, got to where I just wanted it to be over. Mati - in the other books I liked her, so it was odd that in her own story I didn't like her at all, making it hard to root for her and their HEA. I empathized with Denton, thought he got dealt a sucky hand, and felt he deserved better - and better than Mati. Bummer for me as I like family/related series - now w painful narration and VERY long books not sure I'll continue.

Wanted so much to like it

While I appreciate her southern accent, I skipped through the chapters where she read. Like nails on a chalkboard. Just felt like she was reading off a sheet of paper, somewhat monotone. I have never had such an a reaction to a voice before. I have loved the others in this series and the male voice was okay. I wouldn’t use this actress (?) again though.

The female voice has got to go
