Publisher's summary

Another romance for the over 40.

Midge Everette: I'm 41 today. It's my birthday, and I'm crying over burnt toast. That's not some euphemism. Literally, I'm sobbing over crusty bread, so I call a crisis center. I just need someone to talk to about life. Only I recognize the smoky voice of the man on the line. Sweet cheese, don't let it be...

Hank Paige: As a former rock star, I once had it all. Fame. Fortune. Females. Except for the one thing I wanted most. Then I lost everything. I fix cars now and restore other people's dreams. I just want to be somebody's someone. And there's a certain woman with captivating eyes who might be the more I'm looking for. For the love of all things, please let it be her....

In the midst of questioning everything, could love be the resolution to a midlife crisis?

Contains mature themes.

4.5 stars of mature romance goodness, bravo!

★¸¸.•*¨*•★Minor Spoilers Alert★•*¨*•.¸¸★

I loved being able to easily re-read Midlife Crisis with my old book buddy Beth who wanted to read this one after loving and finishing "After Care: a romance for the over 40" by this same author.

Writing style: Dual POVs

Cover and chapter design: I love it especially the fact that the hero is laughing on this cover.

Collected in Dual Formats – Yes or No? Yes! I own it in Kindle e-book (1st read) and Audible audiobook (2nd read) formats.
Ratings
Overall ★★★★½
Performances –★★★★★ for Aaron Shedlock!
He excelled at doing both male and female voices. I will definitely be on the look out for more novels narrated by him.

Performances –★★★★☆ for Teri Schnaubelt!
She has great acting instincts although I was not too crazy about her male voices.

Story 4.5-5 stars
This was a re-read via audiobook after my original Kindle format read. I enjoyed reliving Midge and Hank's fall into love so much!

Some favorite moments / elements:
Hank's admission that he wanted to be intimate with Midge when he discovered she was home in bed already. Her teasing response to him quickly turned tender as he explained further what being intimate really meant to him.

I especially loved how many scenes Hank and Midge's 3 sons had together. He was clueless about being a dad in any capacity, but I loved his approach to bonding with her sons when giving advice, explaining his feelings toward their mother, his support for their activities and then gifting them all the leather bands and explaining what the color of the beads on them meant. That scene between him and young Liam while they were waiting for Midge on their doorstep touched me so much the first time I read it in e-book format. It hit me in the heart all over again with Aaron Shedlock's great voice acting.

Coming up next: "Restored Dreams: more romance for the over 40"

I wish this entire series were already available via audiobook format. Alas, that is not the case, so it will be a while longer before I read about his brother Brut in Kindle format.

Not author’s best☹️

This is the second book I’ve read by LB Dunbar. The first book I read was outstanding. This book was good but not as great as the first one. However I have to praise this author for writing books about the 40+ characters. I still feel I need to recommend because even though it’s not her best, it’s still a good book.

Good story

Good story line. Couples are getting married at older ages now. Then there's those second times.

YES! More please…

This book was such an unexpected surprise. It kept me on the edge emotionally because it was so relatable to real life. I loved the raw emotion and openness of the characters. Made me believe in happily ever after. I can’t wait to start the next book.
Thank you for all the silver foxes in this series.❤️

Finally an ADULT story!!

This was a great realistic, adult, mature story! I loved it. I love Arron Shedlock's voice which is why I purchased this. But I was happy to see there was actually a storyline with a grown ass woman going thru real life changes - kids, jobs, divorce - the works. I can't wait to hear Lily and Brude's story! And please keep Aaron as the narrator!

Repeat

I tried hard to listen to this book. It was very boring. The same thing over and over again. Little lady was said a million times. I had to skip through a lot of this book, and even though I did I don’t feel like I missed anything. The female narrator should not try to do a male voice, it was very annoying.

Enjoyed

Book was great. Storyline was way heavier than I anticipated- I expected a rom com. There are funny parts but overall was a lot of angsty push and pull with the M/FMC. Like a lot a lot.
Great character building and chemistry- they were having sex everywhere 😆
I agree with another review about the overuse of “little lady”. I think it was the way the female narrator said it. I didn’t enjoy her male voice and would have liked a lot more of Shedlock at the end- but overall was a great performance.
I’d actually listen to this again, I really enjoyed it.

Never enough..

Two people wounded and hurt by previous loves wondering why they were never enough and whether they ever will be, for someone special.
Midge and Hank’s first meeting was definitely something to remember for both of them.
Attracted to each other fate had a way of repeatedly putting them together however secrets and insecurities kept pulling them apart.
I suggest reading Book 1, After Care first as the characters and the storyline then flow into this book.
A story I really enjoyed, loving both of these characters and hoping that they could finally work things out.
I’m looking forward to reading / listening to the rest of the series.
I enjoyed the dual narration.

I loved it, I loved it!! For mature audiences..lol

This is one big enjoyable listen.
The narration was fantastic. Aaron was great and Teri was great as Midge. Her male voice wasn't so hot at times but who cares, this was a great story.
Hank was adorable and he had past relationship stuff he and Midge had to work thru and they did. It was interesting listening to them work thru the drama of it all.
There's family stuff, funny preteen and teenage boy stuff; there's divorce and just about everything you might experience in a mature romantic relationship.
Hank was hot and there's plenty of romance too. And Midge, well let's just say she was smitten and all sexy over Hank.
In fact, there's more romance in this book for the 40plus audience than some of the others. Quite surprisingly yes indeed. Definitely a good one!!
