About this listen

Having a baby in a bakery gives new meaning to taking the bun out of the oven.

I’d been in Curmudgeon Bakery for one of those lemon baby-Bundt cakes I’d been craving since I found out I was pregnant. The draw had nothing to do with the baker himself. Tall, tatted, and edgy, he looked more like a biker than a man who makes baked goods. I hardly knew him other than taking a tumble in a rainstorm in front of his shop...and then tossing myself at him after he rescued me. We shared a moment, but it’s not what you’d think.

Months later, he delivered my baby among his cookies and cakes. Talk about a second chance encounter. Then he whips up a plan to pretend to be my baby’s father, and everything heats up from there. My body. My heart. My willingness to accept a perfect stranger’s kindness despite him telling me over and over he isn’t who I think he is. I beg to differ. He’s that sugary drizzle on a citrus-flavored guilty pleasure that’s bad for the hips, but together—him, and me, and baby—we’re the perfect blend of ingredients that might do all our hearts some good.

Sweet Grumpy/Sunshine

I love a sweetly awkward meet-cute and this one is a doozie! L.B. Dunbar’s Sterling Heat is a wonderful new series starter. I don’t think I’ve ever read an opening few chapters as funny, surprising, and wholly heartwarming as Sebastian and Enya’s. If you’re in the mood for a cozy meet-cute with a thoughtful, charismatic, grump of a hero and a dazzling, strong, fierce mama bear heroine, grab Sterling Heat now!

Samantha flipping Brentmoor was outstanding in this audiobook! She was perfectly cast as the beguiling, effervescent Enya. Lance Greenfield was wonderful as the gruff, grumpy baker, Bash. I can’t wait to see where this series goes!

Gripping and emotional

If there is one thing I know, it is that L.B. Dunbar never fails to deliver an entertaining story with characters who are engaging and so easy to relate to; probably because her characters are more mature and closer to my age.

From the first to the last chapter, I was captivated by the story she wove about Enya Calloway and Sebastian Sylver. Set in a small town, I was intrigued when I read the blurb for Sterling Heat. When Sebastian delivers Enya’s baby in his bakery, I just knew we were in for an entertaining story.

This is a beautifully written, witty, and emotional at times story that ticked every box for me. Sebastian and Enya have a connection no ne can break and it was obvious that they were meat to be together, if only Enya can convince him that he is what she and her daughter need.

This was an emotional journey that got to me on numerous levels. Lance Greenfield and Samantha Brentmoor did a wonderful job with their narration. Bringing all the passion, love, drama and romance to life for me.

Story

I loved the story but not a huge fan of lance narrator. He sounds like a narrator of some of the spy series that my husband listens to and not like a dreamy romance guy.

Wonderful

Two people meet and are meant for each other even though they have obstacles from their past in the way. The narration was great.

Sterling HEAT!

Sebastian and Enya have two chance meetings. After the first one, they couldn't get the other off their minds. For all of Sebastian's "I'm not gonna be a Daddy" comments, he sure changed his mind once he saw that baby. Without even realizing it, he became hers and Enya's protector. I do agree with some reviewers that is was a bit slow going, I still really enjoyed their story.
Samantha Brentmoor and Lance Greenfield did a fantastic job with the characters.

Sweet story, but very slow burn and...🥴

I really liked the premise of the story and how it started. However, I honestly struggled through every chapter that the male narrator (LG) voiced; truly, it was painful. While the tone & pitch of his voice is pleasant enough, it KILLED the male character for me. I think perhaps a different genre might be better suited for his voice, (or perhaps narration of a National Geographic documentary)?!
I love National Geographic narrators/documentaries, so that isn't a bad thing. But wow, I cannot listen to another romance title with this male narrator. Samantha Brentmoor rocked it, as usual!!
Overall, a very sweet story, but if you want a bit more steam (and a steamier delivery), maybe not the book for you.
