About this listen

Sean Drummond is a maverick attorney who cloaks his expertise with smart-mouthed self-deprecation and cynicism. One of the Army's most brilliant lawyers, he's also seen his share of infantry fighting, and when a military scandal causes a global outcry, the brass pick Drummond to head the investigation.

In a remote war at Europe's center, somebody has committed a cold-blooded massacre - 35 victims shot in the head at close range, execution style. The world media blames a U.S. Special Forces team assigned to the region. But Drummond can't take on faith the testimony of the accused Green Berets who protest their innocence.

Drummond uncovers a vast conspiracy of frightening proportion. And the deeper he probes, the more he discovers how duty, honor, and country can clash - in ways both deadly and heartrending.

A great story told very well

There is no better combination of Brian Haig as author and John Rubinstein as reader. The story flies!

Witty and entertaining

I love Brian Haig's writing, witty and fun characters, well developed and immensely likeable. This reader doesn't always do it for me, as he lacks the witty and comedic personality I imagine when reading Haig's hard-cover, but this audio is still a good time.

Splendid effort all round

I share something in common with the author of this book, apparently, in that I know absolutely nothing about the US Army. As a result, mistakes of detail didn't trouble me. The story was much more complex and interesting than I had anticipated, and the reader was brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Loved it!

Drummond is a wonderful character, especially as read by Mr. Rubinstein. What a perfect reader for this book! Wry and sarcastic and perfect for the first-person POV. Can't wait until I get another credit so i can listen to the next one!
(And I don't care that Specialist 7 doesn't exist anymore.)

Author has no clue about the US Army

When I first saw this, being an US Army veteran of 10 years, I felt it would be interesting. But after hearing someone be refered to as the rank of Specialist 7, I quickly knew there was going to be problems. This story is supposed to take place in the 1990's, well the US Army eliminated the rank of Specialist 5 and above in 1985. So that and other things (like a CWO staying in the same Special Forces A team for 17 years!) just soured this whole audio book for me, and I doubt I would ever listen to anything by this author again. He didn't do enough research for his book.
