About this listen

"The queen of beach books" (The Star-Ledger) returns to the shores of Nantucket in a novel about one memorable summer when flirtations flourish, family dramas play out, and scandalous secrets surface.

Memorial Day weekend means that seasonal visitors have descended on the glamorous island of Nantucket. For year-round resident Darcy Cotterill, it means late-night stargazing in the backyard of the beautiful house she grew up in and inherited from her beloved grandmother. It's also Darcy's chance to hit the beach and meet her new summertime neighbors. But the last person the thirty-year-old librarian expects to see staying next door is her ex-husband, Boyz, along with his wife, Autumn, and stepdaughter, Willow.

Darcy must also navigate the highs and lows of a new romantic relationship with local carpenter Nash Forester even as she becomes smitten with handsome vacationer Clive Rush, a musicologist in town to write a book and visit family. And she finds herself pulled into the concerns of Boyz, Autumn, a charming elderly neighbor, and an at-risk teen.

As the season nears its end, Darcy must decide her next move: retreating to the comforts of her steady and secure island life, or risking it all for a chance at true happiness.

I stuck with this until the bitter end constantly hoping the characters would evolve. The leading lady was weak, and annoying at times. I found myself rolling my eyes at her pathetic self talk & so wishing she would have had even the smallest of backbones! I wish Nancy Thayers would’ve developed a stronger female character for this book. Lots of missed opportunities. The story was stale at times. And just plain annoying. Take a pass on this one!

Not one of Nancy Thayer’s best

it was so enjoyable to hear a story that mentioned as many familiar places. Either the author has. isited the island or has done a lot of true researched h. I loved the ook.

This was a great listen as I worked my garden and colored. Could easily picture the setting which was awesome. Her relationships and feelings kept me interested to see what would happen.

Absolutely love this reader! She's so good, you just get lost in the story. I want to seek out more books she has recorded.

I loved this story about a woman who has finally found herself after a terrible first marriage. I loved that Darcy was still open to find love. I loved the vivid descriptions of the ocean and landscape. The narrator did an excellent job of expressing the emotions and feelings of all the characters. I look forward to listening to more stories from this author and this narrator.

This was an odd story and at times just plain silly - and a bit all over the place. characters weren’t terribly well-developed. It was ok for a ‘beach read’ as long as you don’t expect too much. Narrator over-did character voices making them all sound like caricatures.

Ok for a beach read

Really really good story! I enjoyed it more than I have any for quite a while. It was in large part because of Amy McFadden the narrator, she is so good! I appreciate her more because there were three books before this not necessarily Nancy’s but others that sounded really good but I couldn’t stand the narrator so I just didn’t listen. So thank you Nancy for having Amy McFadden For your wonderful stories!

Excellent!

What did you like best about this story?

The characters are engaging and the story keeps moving along. A little too "sweet" for my taste, but was a decent read. The ending was terrible--simply patched up to make everyone happy after after sort of thing. Not much thought, but still wasn't a bad "beach" read!

Enjoyable read

The story got better once the main character separated from her ex-husband. Good characters.

wish it had alittle more substance but it could be because it was an audio book. sometimes books are better to read than listen to.
