About this listen

Wedding bells are ringing, a family is reunited, and new romances are blooming - for better or for worse - in a standalone novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Island House and Secrets in Summer.

A few years after losing her beloved husband, Alison is doing something she never thought she would do again: getting married. While placing the finishing touches on her summer nuptials, Alison is anxious to introduce her fiancé, David, to her grown daughters: Felicity, a worried married mother of two, and Jane, also married but focused on her career. The sisters have a somewhat distant relationship and Alison hopes that the wedding and the weeks leading up to the ceremony will give the siblings a chance to reconnect, as well as meet and get to know David’s grown children.

As the summer progresses, it is anything but smooth sailing. Felicity stumbles upon a terrible secret that could shatter her carefully cultivated world. Jane finds herself under the spell of her soon-to-be stepbrother, Ethan, who is as charming as he is mysterious. And even Allison is surprised (and slightly alarmed) by her new blended family. Revelations, intrigue, resentments - as the Big Day approaches, will the promise of bliss be a bust?

Against the gorgeous backdrop of the sunswept island of Nantucket, Nancy Thayer sets the stage for a walk down the aisle no one will ever forget.

Accents

The so called Welsh accents portrayed by the narrator were terrible if you don’t know what a Welsh accent sounds like don’t do one at all

This was on ok story. There were some errors when the narrator would mention David instead of Noah, Scott instead of David etc.

Wasted my time waiting for it to get better...

With this book, I felt like I wanted the hours back in my life that I wasted listening to this… But I kept listening thinking there would be something that would make it “worth my time” with a twist at the end even… Nothing!

A good story

I thought it was a good story. I enjoyed the book. It's good if you want just to light read.

Names

There were a number of instances where the reader used wrong names of the characters. It may be mistakes in the writing.

So boring

Super let down. I could not wait for the story to end. Not only predictable, but totally unsatisfactory. I kept holding on for some sort of twist or turn to bring the story to life, but it just ended. thank goodness.

Too simplistic

I generally love Nancy Thayer. I'm never expecting a Pulitzer prize novel, but it's usually enjoyable and an easy listen. I can't decide if this one is bad because of the narration or because the writing somehow comes across as oversimplified, but it's one of the few books I don't have the patience to finish. I'm about four or five chapters in and I'm giving up. I'm hoping it's not too late for a refund, but it probably is.

too simple

The characters were all cliche and one-note, the plot predictable, and all that only made worse by a very stiff narrator who would be better suited reading the U.S. Constitution.
