About this listen

If you were ever a teenage girl - or if you’ve even known a teenage girl - you may know it’s a difficult time, often riddled with insecurities, anxiety, and depression.

And while adolescent boys often face similar emotions, research shows that females are more likely to be predisposed to depression; by the time they reach late adolescence, teen girls are twice as likely to become depressed as teen boys. So, what happens in early adolescence that pushes teen girls over the edge into depression? And more importantly, how can we address it?

Over the course of 10 lessons, Dr. Karen Bluth offers a solution: self-compassion. She explores why self-compassion is a good thing - a resource that people can learn, put in their toolbox, and use whenever they have a challenging day or even a challenging moment. And crucially, she explains how we can help teenage girls develop self-compassion to aid them in the fight against depression. You’ll discover the struggles girls face, how they can maintain a balanced perspective, how to help girls not be self-critical, how they can claim their agency and purpose, how they can avoid toxic friends, and more.

Help your girls develop the tools that will get them through some of the most turbulent times in their lives.

wow

holy shit women have it hard. I have a small army of daughters and figured this would be a valuable listen. I learned more about my wife and can appreciate more of her emotional situation. there was a blatant contradiction when the author pointed out that kids are not only stressed out about normal kid stuff, but also really stressed out about climate change. the author then suggests that kids dive into that stress and make it their purpose in life because it makes them feel good. other than that, I had to speed it up to like 2.5 during the slow, meditative reading in some sections. this was great and I will be telling my family and friends to listen to this.

listen to the end...

at first, i thought this listen was the same old psycho babble, but as she starts pulling her ideas all together, she truly has some do-able tools for young girls and parents. in today's world, we need all the tools we can jam in our belts to keep young kiddos mentally grounded. i think this is a MUST listen.
