About this listen

New York Times best seller

Psychologist Alex Delaware and Detective Milo Sturgis search for answers to a brutal, decades-old crime in this electrifying psychological thriller from the master of suspense.

LAPD Homicide Lieutenant Milo Sturgis is a master detective. He has a near-perfect solve rate, and he’s written his own rule book. Some of those successes - the toughest ones - have involved his best friend, the brilliant Psychologist Alex Delaware. But Milo doesn’t call Alex in unless cases are "different". This murder warrants an immediate call. Milo’s independence has been compromised as never before, as the department pressures him to cater to the demands of a mogul: a hard-to-fathom, mega-rich young woman who is obsessed with reopening the coldest of cases - the decades-old death of the mother she never knew.

The facts describe a likely loser: a mysterious woman found with a bullet in her head in a torched Cadillac that has overturned on infamously treacherous Mulholland Drive. No physical evidence, no witnesses, no apparent motive. And a slew of detectives have already worked the case and failed. But as Delaware and Sturgis begin digging, the mist begins to lift. Too many coincidences. Facts turn out to be anything but. And as they soon discover, very real threats lurking in the present.

This is Delaware/Sturgis at their best: traversing the beautiful but forbidding place known as Los Angeles and exhuming the past in order to bring a vicious killer to justice.

Best of a long line of genius books

I am a Kellerman fan. Have been for awhile. The title of this book says it all about the plot. It is masterful. These characters Milo Alex Robin Rick Petra are like friends to me. This book is just great from beginning to end. I love the psychological aspects that are peppered in to each book. I want Alex to be my shrink. I want to have Robin restore my violin. If you like fast paced and well crafted detective fiction run don’t walk to buy this one.

Alex and Milo at their best

First, let me rave about the narrator John Rubinstein. Without fail he is always a draw for my choosing the Kellerman series. I have come to know these repeat characters like old friends. Characters I admire and laugh with. Second, the story is full of layer after layer of suspense and intrigue. Alex and the Big Guy at their finest ! Just when you think you probably couldn’t take another Delaware story Kellerman manages to write another psychological thriller that’s interesting and completely enjoyable. I recommend this novel.

A lot to keep up with

I liked the book. Keeping up with the women in the story could get a little confusing at times. It needed a woman narrative. The male narrator sounded silly at times doing the women. It probably would have been better reading it instead audio.

Rubenstein is the best.

Alex and Milo are two of my very favorite characters. Their dynamic friendship makes the book even more captivating. And no one reads Alex and Milo like Rubenstein. He's perfect!

Enjoyable

Definitely worth reading/listening to. Milo’s Rick is even involved briefly. As always, the solution makes sense.
