In Shadow Prey, the crackling sequel to Rules of Prey, Twin Cities sleuth Lucas Davenport teams up with NYPD Lieutenant Lily Rothenberg to track down an elusive killer known only as Shadow Love. Not my cup of tea

I started reading this series as a buddy read and from all of the great reviews, I thought it was right up my alley, however, I just can't connect with the main character. He is an intelegent, womanizing, adulterous cad. The story was okay but tedious and I found myself loosing attention. The ending was exciting but not satisfying. I've been told Lucas becomes more interesting and not so demeaning in the next books, I'm just not sure I'm going to continue.

Okay, but unnecessary events.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Basic story okay, but unnecessary language and sex scenes, had nothing to do to keep the story going.

Would you recommend Shadow Prey to your friends? Why or why not?

See above, same question.

I am HOOKED!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It starts off by gripping my interest and not letting go! I definitely recommend this book!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Shadow Prey?

The climax - the final showdown between good and evil - blew my mind. I was so nervous for Lucas and his family! I could barely breathe! Thank goodness for the safe!!

Which character – as performed by Richard Ferrone – was your favorite?

Lucas - he has a cool, alpha male "swag" about him, and I can feel it through Richard Ferrone's voice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The beginning of the book was heartbreaking. Without giving away much, my heart ached for the poor girl. She was a human being...somebody's daughter. All I could think to myself is 'She will never be the same.'

Any additional comments?

I have purchased the next two books in this series! I love the Prey series thus far and plan to listen to each and every book!!!

Great Potential Lessened By Davenport Sex Drive

Started reading Prey Series about book 4 or 5. Have enjoyed the creative stories and seeing Davenport grow as a character. Decided to read first 4 books. Really enjoyed book 1 despite unnecessary bad language. Book 2 ( Shadow Prey) had even better story but loses points for gratuitous poor language and Davenport's abundant sex drive. Hard to understand why writers and editors see sex and bad language as integral instead of additive. Like food seasoning sex, violence and language should be judiciously used.

Richard Ferrone is terrific.

Not a Social Commentary

I read and listened to many Lucas Davenport novels before getting this one so I'm going backwards. Nonetheless, the writing is still superb. There is an undercurrent of social commentary about the treatment of Native Americans but it is not blatant nor intrusive. The mystery is all Davenport.

Decent story

The book isn't bad but not great. The passion segments of the book were just not good and way to much of it. Lilly's voice was just horrible the narrator could have done a lot better

Just o.k.

Mr. Sandford's 2nd book. In my opinion, not his best. Like his later Prey books.

Love the books, not the narration

I'll start this off with a huge "I love your writing" to Sandford. I own all the paperbacks and ended up stumbling upon the audiobooks many years later.

My largest complaint with this audiobook is the narrator. I'm sure he is a good narrator & really personifies Davenport for other people. But I just couldn't get into it. I didn't feel any spark or connection between his narration and the characters. This would have been a 5 star review, had there not been a disconnect and difficulty listening to the narrator. Perhaps I'm being way too anal about the small details but mispronouncing certain words and slight, strange ways of saying other words really threw me off and many times I had to step away from the audiobook because I was getting frustrated.

This all being said, if you can look past the narrator's quirks, this story is fantastic and should be purchased.
