About this listen

As a former political tracker with a brand-new law degree, Sam Callahan has turned his life around, leaving behind a childhood ravaged by abuse and a fatally dangerous job shadowing political candidates. Now a lawyer, Sam hopes for a risk-free future, but harm's way has a much longer reach than he could ever expect.

His very first legal client is gunned down in a Mexico City hotel, and Sam barely dodges a bullet himself. Suddenly on everyone's most-wanted list - brutal hit men, hostile cops, relentless FBI agents, and even an infamous assassin - he doesn't have the luxury of finding out why.

When Sam's girlfriend is dragged into the fray by a kidnapper, Sam would do anything to save her life. The catch? He's got only twenty-four hours to do it...but any number of ways to die.

While this is the second installment of a series, it can also be a standalone story, which is really a help to those of you who might not have caught book one. But let me also state that book one is really worth the time to seek out. This book takes a very different course than the first book. Sam has left his bounty hunter days behind him. His fiancee, he managed to meet in book one, is still with him, but really requires no backstory. He IS once again plunged into trouble that is none of his owe making, which I took a star off for, because there were one too many coincidences. But, still, there are a lot of action packed moments that I would recommend for your listening pleasure! And what I enjoyed the most is the fact there is no objectionable content. Synopsis already taken care of, I would recommend this series!

This book is quite good. There was constant action and mysteries to solve. I want to read more by this author. Narrator was excellent!

Just as I loved this author's first book, "The Tracker", I loved this one. My suggestion for anyone is to read his first book, first, as the background is helpful. I didn't get much done once I started this book. It was like riding a roller coaster. Can't wait for book 3 to come out.

I absolutely Love this author!

And this is why I don't read novels like this one. I figured out how it would go, towards the end and hoped for a different ending.

don't get me wrong this is still and excellent story
this just will be the last one I ever read. I might check cliff notes of next one but won't read it.

I enjoyed the Sam Callahan series. They aren't serious mystery thrillers but they are entertaining. Book 2, Shadow Shepherd has its bright spots but is overall pathetic.

Some of the dialogue was quite immature. It was at or below a Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys mystery novel. "A-S-A-P" was used so often I quit counting after 12 uses. Others words can be used rather than this rut.

It is difficult to believe the narrative. Three times the greatest assassin in the world misses killing Sam through the first two books in the series. He then is not the greatest assassin in the world.

Superficially written

From the plot details to the character development, this book was even better than Tracker, the first installment in the series. James Patterson better watch out, because Chad Zucker is coming for his crown as the king of action thrillers.

Holy cow. I thought the first book in the Sam Callahan series was a roller coaster. This one was more like a runaway train. I'm pretty sure the only time I took a breath while reading this juggernaut was when I would gasp from the suspense. This is one solid piece of suspenseful lunacy, and I loved every minute.

While this novel can easily be read as a standalone, trust me. Go ahead and start with the first novel in the series. It will increase your enjoyment of this novel. Because you'll want to dive right into the next one after this. If you're a fan of thrillers, suspense, spy-vs-spy, or alphabet agency reads you'll wonder what took you so long to fall into Sam's world.

Well, This Messed with my Head.

I love the intenseness of this story...Sam has been thrown into so many dangerous situations. I sure hope he survives in the next book.
