About this listen

Vicar Obadiah Demurral isn't satisfied running the affairs of his village, now he wants to control the world. And if his plan works, he will obtain a weapon so powerful, even God and his angels will fall down at his feet. Demurral will stop at nothing, and as a shadowmancer (a sorcerer who speaks to the dead), he even commands restless souls to do his bidding.

Who will stand against him? Raphah has come a long distance to reclaim the ancient relic Demurral has stolen (dangerously volatile in the wrong hands), but Raphah is young. Even younger are Thomas and Kate, accidentally drawn into this war between good and evil. Their struggle against Demurral will bring them face to face with the powers of darkness in an epic battle.

Critic reviews

"A dark and weighty morality tale....There are enough surprises to keep readers madly turning the pages." (Publishers Weekly)

a REALLY good book. Not just good, GREAT. You definitely want to hear this book. The narrator's accent is not difficult to understand. (Review by my 10-year-old son, who listened to it on a long trip.)

it's a great book

Books like these make me long for a 6 star rating. Everything about it is outstanding!

It has a fantastical storyline. It has a Robert Louis Stevenson feel to it. And it has a great reader.

There’s nothing to complain about. Get it!

Highly recommended!

Very interesting book...set in the 1600's or 1700's. It is a tale mixing magic and religion, having treasure, enchanted artifacts, angels and demons. I may read the second in the series. Good first book for GP Taylor.

Great Read...and great book for a first try.

I gave up about half way through because the characters just weren't interesting. It seems like a book for teens.

Interesting concept but mediocre execution

I do wish there was a catagory specifically for Christian fantasy.

This book was pretty much about a messianic figure converting the heathens to Christianity in Great Britian- while fighting a priest who wishes to destroy God ala Lucifer.

It wasn't really to my taste, as I prefer a subtler, allegorical approach to religion in my fantasy.
