About this listen

US law enforcement agent Heather Lane can read minds but not the future. The dream of battle and blood that recurs every night must be a fluke, some obscure terror from her own mind. What its significance might be, she can't guess: an attack from seven psychotic vampires at once, only separated from nightmare by an eighth very different immortal. A handsome, brave man fighting at her side, a man she misses when she wakes. Then the dream comes true. Heather is flung into a war between predators and protectors of humanity, with the man from her dreams beside her again. Except now that she's awake, she isn't sure that she can trust Ethan or the shadow organization he represents. The US military doesn't trust either of them. But against an onslaught of evil like the one that's coming, it will take everything they have just to survive....

Wonderful story ,wonderful narrator

The immortal guardians series is the best paranormal romance series out there. It's fresh, entertaining and a great vacation from the everyday world. Dianne Duvall is seamlessly consistent from book to book, as the story theme progresses. I love the care that she takes with character development.......not in boring exposition, but with superbly entertaining dualogue.
Narration is spot on for every character. The emotions and timing of the narration is simply perfect.......carrying both anger and humor in ways that completely draw the listener into the story.
I can't recommend this series highly enough and am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series. Thank you Dianne !

Love, Love, Love This Series!

I love the characters in this series! Great narration. I really like Dianne Duvall's writing style. This book captured my attention from the word go, as with each book in the series. It made me laugh out loud in some parts and I didn't want to put it down.

Strike Me!

I just keep falling more in love with this series with each book. The characters have so much depth to them and the battle rages on. In this book you get introduce to another Other, who are now picking sides. I am in love with David and in Awe of him, I cannot wait until she does his story. Ethan is spectacular and very grounded when it comes to what he wants. Heather is a very strong heroine and a very good fit for him. She holds her own in the battle not only against the vampires but also her father. Her father is like most dads, very over protective, but not overbearing. This book made me laugh, made me anxious and breathe a sigh of relief.
I cannot wait until the next one.

Can’t get enough!

I just can’t get enough of this series! My favorite part was that the heroine’s dad was brought into the loop of the immortal’s world. Him being a general in the military made it very interesting. As a human the heroine, Heather, is telepathic and uses her skills for the military, FBI and law enforcement. Everyone thinks she’s just able to read facial expressions some how. When there’s an attack on a classified military base, the only survivor claims it was vampires. Unfortunately, everyone claims he has has a breakdown and doesn’t believe him. This leads to Heather being brought in to read his mind. I’ll let you read to find out how it turns out. If you like audiobooks, this one was superb. This is one of the best narrators I’ve ever listened to. I’m going to start over with the series and listen to them all!

more fighting and giggles

There seemed to be more fighting in this one, but Heather and Ethan were cute and made me giggle, so it helped to even it out. There were some interesting twists in this one with the long plot (the plot that goes through all 10 books), but the plot of this single book was also well done.

Everything the others were, and more.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

With each book, I can't get wait until the next one comes out.

Kirsten Potter -- you rock!

What did you like best about this story?

Everything, what's not to like. There are parts that keep you on the edge of your seat. And then you get swept up in relationships between the Immortal Guardians, their spouses, the seconds and Seth and David. You never want to stop being part of this story.

Which scene was your favorite?

Absolutely. There is only enough recap to cover what you need to know if you haven't read the prior books.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Absolutely nothing. I am going to look for more books narrated by Kirsten Potter.

Any additional comments?

No.

Great addition to the series :D

4.5-5 stars

This was a great story and a fitting addition to the Immortal Guardians series. Ethan and Heather made another great couple and I was actually surprised at how much I liked them. I'd met Ethan in previous books and didn't think much of him at the time. When I saw this book was his story I figured I'd like it but I ended up enjoying it (and Ethan as the hero) much more than I expected.

Heather is a gifted one and has telepathic abilities. She makes her living as a consultant, supposedly reading truth or lies based on facial micro-expressions but she really uses her telepathy. Heather's father is a General in the military and he does his best to safeguard her secret.

Ethan is an Immortal Guardian that has been alive for over a century. He was trained by Lisette (the heroine from book #5, Night Unbound) and they had been lovers for a while until she met and married Zack. Since then, Ethan has been going on with life but has felt like something was missing.

About a year before the story begins, Heather started having dreams about a fight with Vampires taking place. She's never had prophetic dreams before but the dream kept reoccurring and she felt the need to see if it actually would happen. Heather managed to find the clearing where the dream took place and rented a house near by and then every morning (at the time it took place in her dream) Heather visited the clearing. She never actually expected it to happen and is surprised when Ethan and a group of 7 vamps (all of whom she saw in the dream) actually show up. Heather ends up helping Ethan kill the vamps and that throws them together. There's a strong attraction between them and despite the fact that Ethan's world in dangerous, Heather gets pulled into it.

The fact that Heather is having prophetic dreams indicates that the enemy of the Immortal Guardians (a bad guy that wants to start World War 3) might be playing with her head so the Immortal Guardians keep her close to protect her...which gives her and Ethan time to get to know each other better (and fall in love). There are many difficulties though as Heather's father gets pulled into things and the Immortals aren't sure if he'll be an ally or try to use them for his own aims. The bad guy has learned to shield himself and it makes his capture difficult. There are battles and many things going on that keep the story interesting and kept me engaged and overall, I really like how things are progressing. The series storyline is continued into the next book but this book does end with Heather and Ethan together and starting a HEA.

I enjoyed this story greatly. Ethan and Heather are a really good couple and I enjoyed seeing them come together. The series storyline is intricate yet easy to keep up with and the author has done a great job at keeping the action ongoing without making things repetitive or boring. I highly recommend this story and the series. :D
